Huaihua City, also known as "Hecheng", also known as "Hezhou" and "Wuxi" in ancient times, is a prefecture level city in Hunan Province. It is located in the south of the west of Hunan Province, between Wuling mountains and Xuefeng mountains. It is located between 25 ° 52 ′ 22 ″ - 29 ° 01 ′ 25 ″ N and 108 ° 47 ′ 13 ″ - 111 ° 06 ′ 30 ″ e, with a total area of 27564 square kilometers. Huaihua City is located in the middle subtropical Sichuan, Hubei, Hunan and Guizhou climate zone and the transition part of Jiangnan climate zone. By 2019, Huaihua City has jurisdiction over one municipal district, 10 counties, one county-level city, another administrative district, and the municipal government is located in Hecheng District, with a total resident population of 4.9833 million.
In 1074, the court sent Zhang Dun to pacify Nanjiang man by force, abolished Jimi Yizhou, established Yuanzhou and Luyang County, and changed "manzhai" to Huaihua Zhai. The following year, eight shops were set up in Luyang County, and huaihuazhai was changed into huaihuapu. In the first year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (1368), huaihuapu was replaced by huaihuayi. On May 9, 1942, the Executive Yuan originally planned to name Zhidong county. Because the county was located in Huaihua post, it was specially named Huaihua county. In 1975, the party, government and military authorities of Qianyang District moved to Huaihua, and in June 1981, it was renamed Huaihua. In 1998, Huaihua district was abolished and Huaihua City was established. Huaihua City is a national comprehensive transportation hub city, the central city and node city of Wuling Mountain Economic Cooperation Zone. Since ancient times, it has been known as the "gateway of Guizhou and Yunnan" and "throat of the whole Chu". It is the "bridgehead" from the Middle East to the southwest of China.
In 2019, Huaihua's GDP will reach 161.664 billion yuan, an increase of 8.0%. Among them, the added value of the primary industry was 22.452 billion yuan, an increase of 3.4%; the added value of the secondary industry was 44.826 billion yuan, an increase of 8.4%; the added value of the tertiary industry was 94.386 billion yuan, an increase of 8.8%. The per capita GDP reached 32453 yuan, an increase of 7.8%.

In the fifth year of Gaozu in the Western Han Dynasty (202 BC), it belonged to Wuyang County, Chenyang county and Tancheng county. Wuyang county is governed by the Chinese jingpingtian. In the Eastern Han Dynasty, the province of Wuyang entered Chenyang. Huaihua belonged to Chenyang and Tancheng counties.
During the Taikang period of Jin Dynasty (280-289), Wuyang county was restored and changed from "Wu" to "Wu", which was called Wuyang. The West and northwest of Huaihua belong to Wuyang County, while the others belong to Tancheng and Chenyang counties. In the Western Jin Dynasty, Chenyang was merged into Tancheng county. The south, East and northeast of Huaihua belonged to Tancheng County, while the rest belonged to Wuyang county. In the Yixi period of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (405-415), Tan Cheng was incorporated into Wuyang, and Huaihua was subordinate to Wuyang county.
In the Southern Song Dynasty, Chenyang county was restored. In the Qi Dynasty, Wuyang was changed into Gayang. In Liang Dynasty, Chenyang was changed to Jianchang, paiyang to Longba, and Huaihua to Jianchang and Longba counties. Chen, Jianchang back to Chenyang, Huaihua is Chenyang, Longba county.
In 589, Chenyang was changed to Chenxi. The north and northeast of Huaihua belonged to Chenxi County, while the South and Southeast belonged to Longba county.
In the second year of Xianxian (713) of Tang Dynasty, Tanyang county was established in Longbiao County, and the West and northwest belonged to Tanyang County; the south, East and North belonged to Longbiao and Chenxi County.
Huaihua, a county abandoned in the Five Dynasties, belongs to Chenzhou and Xuzhou respectively. In the territory, Xiang Shiman established himself in Hezhou, where Hezhou village was located, that is, the intersection of Fengxi (Taiping River) and Yuanshui.
In the early Song Dynasty, Huaihua belonged to Chenzhou, Xuzhou and Jimi Yizhou. In the year of Qiande (963-968), Chenxi set up Longmen and Tongan erzhai. Huaqiao and Longchang in Huaihua were Longmen Zhai at that time, while Tongwan and Tongding were Tongan Zhai (Tongwan). In 1275, Luxi County of Chenzhou and Tanyang County of Yuanzhou were changed into Chenzhou road and Yuanzhou road. Huaihua belonged to Chenxi County of Chenzhou road and Luyang and Qianyang County of Yuanzhou road.
In the first year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (1368), huaihuapu was replaced by Huaihua post, and then a delivery post was set up. Chenghua seven years (1471), and in Yi, subordinate to Yuanzhou.
In the early Qing Dynasty, the subordinate relationship of Huaihua remained unchanged. At the beginning of Kangxi, Yuanzhou (excluding counties) had thirty-eight Li, including Mei Yi Li, Mei Er Li, Mei San Li and Shi Cheng Si Li, which are now part of huangjin'ao, Luyang, Yingkou district and Zhongfang district. In the 32nd year of Kangxi (1693), there were 24 Li in Qianyang County, including Shun Yi Li, Shun Er Li, Shi Yi Li and Shi Er Li. Yongzheng eight years (1730), Chenxi County set up 14 Li, its two capital Li, four capital Li, that is now Huaihua Tongding, Longchang, Huaqiao and other places. In the first year of Qianlong (1736), Yuanzhou was changed into a prefecture, and Zhijiang county was set up, and the county magistrate was stationed in Yushi. After that, Huaihua belonged to Zhijiang, Qianyang and Chenxi. In the 41st year of Qianlong (1776), the post of Huaihua was changed into the inspection department of Huaihua, which was also in charge of post affairs. In the 22nd year of Jiaqing (1817), Zhijiang county was divided into 32 Li, including all of Bali in Huaihua, most of Qili in Gongping, all of Yingkou and huangjin'ao in Huaihua, most of Luyang and a small part of Zhongfang and Tongwan.
In December 1941, Mao Bingwen, commander of the first Qingxiang District of the sixth war zone of Hunan Province, submitted a document to the provincial government, proposing to set up a new County in the border area of Zhijiang, Qianyang and Chenxi counties, "so as to build a foundation for public security.". On December 9 of the same year, the territory adjustment Committee of Hunan Provincial Government held the 255 th standing committee meeting and passed Mao Bingwen's submission, which was reported to the central Ministry of the interior for the record. At the same time, Li Xizhang, director of the territory Research Committee of the provincial government, discussed with the ninth and Tenth District Commissioner of administrative supervision and the heads of Zhijiang, Chenxi and Qianyang counties to delimit the new county. On April 28, 1942, the Ministry of interior of the national government reported to the Executive Yuan. On May 9 of the same year, the Executive Yuan approved the establishment of a new county by Decree No. 868. It was originally named Zhidong County, which was specially named Huaihua county because the county government was located in Huaihua post. In September of the same year, Huaihua County preparatory office was established, with Dai Hongzhi as director and director of the Preparatory Committee. On January 20, 1943, Huaihua county government was established, which was under the jurisdiction of the tenth administrative supervision district and was designated as a third class B county.
Huaihua was liberated on October 1, 1949, and the county people's government was established on November 1, 1949. It was stationed at Feishan temple in Yushuwan and subordinate to Huitong district.
In August 1952, it was transferred to Zhijiang district. In December of the same year, with the change of name of Zhijiang District, it was changed to Qianyang district.
In 1968, Qianyang area was renamed Qianyang area, and Huaihua county was attached to it.
In 1975, the party, government and military authorities of Qianyang District moved to Huaihua, and in June 1981, it was renamed Huaihua.
In 1998, Huaihua district was abolished and Huaihua City was established. It has jurisdiction over 12 counties (cities and districts) and a management committee, including Hecheng District, Hongjiang City, Zhongfang County, Yuanling County, Chenxi County, Xupu County, Huitong County, Mayang Miao Autonomous County, Xinhuang Dong Autonomous County, Zhijiang Dong Autonomous County, Jingzhou Miao and Dong Autonomous County, Tongdao Dong Autonomous County and Hongjiang District Management Committee.

In January 1984, according to the spirit of the notice of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council on the separation of government from society and the establishment of a local people's government, communes were transformed into townships. By the end of the year, 29 townships and 1 town will be set up in the city, and the production brigade and production team will be changed into villages and groups. On January 31 of this year, with the approval of the provincial people's government, three townships of lutingao, Yangcun and Jiangjia were added. Luyang township was abolished and its administrative area was designated as Luyang town.
