Wuhu Economic and Technological Development Zone Wuhu Economic and Technological Development Zone is located in the East and north of Wuhu City. It is a national economic and technological development zone approved by the State Council in April 1993. It is the first national economic and Technological Development Zone in Anhui Province. There are national export processing zone, national high-tech entrepreneurship service center, national auto parts export base and national auto electronics industrial park.

In 2018, it ranked 15th in China and 6th in China in terms of scientific and technological innovation.

In July 2019, it was listed as a national intellectual property demonstration park. On December 4, 2020, the "winner" in the comprehensive assessment of development zones in Anhui Province was commended by Anhui provincial government.

Development trend

After more than ten years of development and construction, the development zone has developed into a window for Wuhu to open up, a pilot zone for system innovation, a pilot zone for advanced manufacturing industry, and a demonstration zone for opening up. The planned area is 121.68 square kilometers. Under the jurisdiction of Longshan, Wanchun two streets, population 4549 people (2010).

By the end of 2011, there were 1588 enterprises (including 24 overseas Fortune 500 enterprises and 45 domestic listed companies), including 566 industrial enterprises. In 2011, the gross output value was 43.3 billion yuan, with a 20% increase in comparable price; the total output value of industries above designated size was 163.95 billion yuan, with an added value of 40.07 billion yuan.

Automobile and parts industry

There are more than 100 auto parts manufacturers. Chery has formed an annual production capacity of 1 million engines and 900000 vehicles. In 2011, it sold 640000 vehicles, ranking the first in sales of domestic independent brand passenger car enterprises for 11 consecutive years, and the first in export sales of domestic passenger car enterprises for nine consecutive years. With the rapid development of auto parts production capacity, a number of famous auto parts enterprises at home and abroad, such as continental Germany, Fiat of Italy, Johnson of the United States, Delphi of the United States, Cooper of the United States, ASIMCO of the United States, POSCO of South Korea, SKF of Sweden, air conditioning international of Australia, Xinyi Group, Henglong group and Wanxiang Group, have entered the zone for investment and development. There are more than 100 auto parts manufacturing enterprises in the Development Zone, including more than 50 enterprises above designated size. The products cover various systems of auto parts.

Electronic and electrical industry

It is the largest production base of household air conditioning in China. It is Jimei, Hitachi, Taiwan Delta and del brands. More than 50 air conditioning supporting enterprises have developed nearby, with an annual air conditioning capacity of 13.5 million units. It is one of the largest micro motor production bases in China, with a production capacity of more than 30 million units. The production capacity of refrigerator compressors has reached 8 million sets.

The automotive electronics industry has formed an enterprise group composed of more than 30 enterprises. The products include automotive instruments, traveling data recorder, automotive air conditioning, electric skylight, automatic lift door, automatic sliding door, automotive wiring harness, EFI system, automotive electric seat, body control module, etc.

New material industry

It is the largest production base of new building materials for PVC, pipe and gypsum board in China and an important copper base material processing base in China. The production capacity of conch PVC profiles is 600000 tons, that of Huaya plastic PVC pipes invested by Taiwan Formosa Plastics Group is 60000 tons, and that of German Knauf gypsum board is 23 million square meters. It has formed a series of products of copper plate, copper strip, copper tube and copper wire, with an annual processing capacity of more than 200000 tons. It has two local listed companies, Xinke materials and Jingcheng copper.

Export processing zone

The export processing zone, located in Wuhu Economic and Technological Development Zone, is the first approved export processing zone in Anhui Province. In February 2003, it was closed and put into operation, with a planned area of 2.95 square kilometers, of which the first phase development area is 1.1 square kilometers, and the basic development and construction have been completed. In 2007, the total value of import and export was 61.97 million US dollars. The construction of 1.07 square kilometers in phase II has been in full swing, and it will be closed and put into operation within this year.

A total of 16 enterprises have been introduced into the export processing zone, of which 8 have been put into operation, 5 are under construction and 3 are about to start construction. A number of large-scale projects with high technology content are under construction, represented by Delta Electronics, Midea Group household appliances, Hong Kong Haiwen nano new materials, etc. The export processing zone and the economic and Technological Development Zone complement and support each other. They are becoming an important platform for cultivating new industries, recruiting large businesses, attracting huge funds, and accelerating industrial agglomeration.

At the end of the 11th five year plan, Wuhu export processing zone will realize a total export value of 1.5 billion US dollars, and build Wuhu export processing zone into a national first-class export processing zone with distinctive industrial characteristics.

Eastern Development Zone

The planning area of the Eastern District of the development zone is 48.4 square kilometers, which is a new development space for the second venture of the development zone.

The eastern area is flat and has a vast hinterland. It is located at the intersection of Yanjiang Expressway and Wuhang Hangzhou Expressway, so the construction conditions are very superior.

The Eastern District will be committed to building an advanced manufacturing base, focusing on the development of five industries: Automobile and its parts, household appliances, electronic information, new materials and equipment manufacturing. Midea Group, Tianhang group and other well-known enterprises have entered the zone for development.

The Eastern District will build a comprehensive supporting system of finance, logistics, entertainment, catering, accommodation, culture, health and sports according to the standards of the new urban area.

Fengming Lake scenic area is planned according to the concept of open space, with a total area of 9 square kilometers.

Absorbing foreign capital

In 2011, the actual utilization of foreign capital was 4.6 billion US dollars, and the actual utilization of domestic capital was 18.05 billion yuan. A number of international well-known multinational companies such as Hitachi, Kawasaki heavy industries, Continental Germany, Citibank, Johnson Controls, Fiat and PPG have invested in the region. Important projects include: Hitachi's $40 million household appliances production project for air conditioners, refrigerators and washing machines, Siemens's $140 million medium and high-end automotive instrument production project, and Knauf's $55 million new building material gypsum board production project.

In the past five years, Xinyi photovoltaic glass, humanistic bearing, Dongxu optoelectronics, Taiwan Delta, San'an optoelectronics, Dehao Runda, Midea, Meizhi compressor, Midea kitchen and bathroom, Dell home appliances and other major projects have been settled.

The development zone has gradually formed three pillar industrial clusters: Automobile and its parts, electronic and electrical appliances, and new building materials. With the commissioning of a number of projects under construction and expansion, the development zone will have a production capacity of 1 million cars, 500000 sets of automobile instruments, 15 million air conditioners, 520000 tons of PVC profiles and pipes. It is an important production base for automobiles and their parts, air conditioners and new building materials in China. In 2001, the output value of the three pillar industries in the Development Zone reached 9.59 billion yuan, accounting for 92% of the total output value of new industrial enterprises in the region. Water supply: there are four water plants in Wuhu City, with the designed water supply capacity of 475000 tons / day and the actual water supply capacity of 400000 tons / day. After the second phase of yangjiamen water plant is put into operation at the end of 2008, its water supply capacity will reach 600000 tons / day.

Drainage: the drainage pipe network of the development zone is divided into rain and sewage, in which the daily sewage treatment capacity of the South Sewage Treatment Plant Phase I project is 100000 tons; the daily sewage treatment capacity of the North sewage treatment plant phase I project is 60000 tons. Power supply: the power supply of the development zone comes from East China power grid. There is a power plant with an installed capacity of 560MW in the north of the development zone. There are 220kV Teachers College substation, 110kV Jianshan substation, 110kV Shicheng substation, 110kV yangjiamen substation and 10kV switching station in the zone, which can ensure the power consumption of the development zone.

Gas supply: the Development Zone realizes gas supply by natural gas pipe network, which can meet the gas demand of production and life of enterprises in the zone.

Wuhu development zone was approved as a national economic and Technological Development Zone by the State Council in April 1993. In 2008, it achieved a regional GDP of 22.06 billion yuan and a total industrial output value of 80.24 billion yuan.
