Yaohai District, belonging to Hefei City, Anhui Province, is one of the central cities of Hefei City, located in the east of Hefei City, between the Yangtze River and Huaihe River. The annual temperature is cold in winter and hot in summer, mild in spring and autumn. It belongs to the transition zone climate type from warm temperate zone to subtropical zone, which is subtropical humid monsoon climate. By 2019, the district has a total area of 64.4 square kilometers, 11 streets and one town under its jurisdiction, and the district government is located in Mingguang Road, with a permanent resident population of 1016000.
In April 1950, according to the instructions of Wanbei administrative office, the authority of Station District police station was transferred to the newly established Station District of Hefei city. In 1960, the city launched the communization movement, and the district was changed into the people's commune of Dongshi district on June 5 of that year. On May 18, 1968, Dongshi District People's commune was abolished and Dongshi District People's government was established. In March 2002, the District of Hefei was changed to Yaohai district. Yaohai district is the "bridgehead" and important transportation hub of traditional industrial zone and East Development of Hefei city. Bashang street, with a long history, has been a vehicle and boat wharf since ancient times. It is a prosperous place for the trading of rice cloth in ancient Luzhou and the cradle of the development of commodity economy in Hefei. It has been awarded the title of "China's famous clothing trade city" by China Textile Industry Federation. On October 8, 2019, it ranked No. 40 in the list of top 100 national comprehensive strength areas in 2019, and was selected into top 100 national investment potential areas in 2019 and top 100 national new urbanization quality areas in 2019.
In 2018, Yaohai district (excluding Xinzhan District) achieved a GDP of 59.84 billion yuan, a ratio of three industries of 0:27.8:72.2, a fiscal revenue of 2.517 billion yuan, an increase of about 10% in the total retail sales of social consumer goods, and a per capita disposable income of 47322 yuan for urban residents.

In April 1950, according to the instructions of Wanbei administrative office, the authority of Station District police station was transferred to the newly established Station District of Hefei city. The district is bounded by Hefei section of Huainan railway in the East, east gate of Hefei old city in the west, leidaying in the suburb in the South and liudaying in front of Hefei old railway station in the north. The East-West span is 0.75 km, the North-South span is 2.5 km, and the area is 1.875 square kilometers.
In 1960, the city launched the communization movement, and the district was changed into Dongshi District People's commune on June 5 of that year. CPC Station Committee renamed CPC Dongshi District People's commune Committee.) At that time, the commune had 8 branches, including Sanli street, Heping Road, Shengli Road, Dongfanghong, Huachong, daxingji, Mingguang Road and Hongguang.
On May 18, 1968, Dongshi District People's commune was abolished and Dongshi District People's government was established. The office is located at 472 Bengbu road. On September 3 of that year, all the branches under the jurisdiction of the former Dongshi District People's commune were abolished and changed into 18 Street committees. Six of them are residential streets in the factory area. In June of the same year, 21 agricultural and vegetable brigades under the jurisdiction of the district were assigned to the suburbs.
In March 2002, the District of Hefei was changed to Yaohai district.

In 1953, the 15 administrative groups under the jurisdiction of the district were abolished and eight neighborhood committees were established, including Shengli Road, station, Gewu street, Bashang street, Shangwu street, Hebei Street, Chongde street and Sanli street. In 1954, three residents' committees were set up, including the center, Hepu road and MaoGong bridge.
In 1955, the Station District People's government changed its name to the Station District People's Committee. Its scope and organization remain unchanged.
In 1956, Qili station residents committee was set up in the district. At the same time, the five residents' committees of Gewu, Bashang, Chongde, Shangwu and Hebei were renamed as bengyi, benger, Chuzhou Road, Chaohu Road and yuhuaqiao residents' committees respectively.
In July 1965, according to the instructions of Anhui Provincial People's Committee on the establishment of sub district offices and the addition of residents' committees, four sub district committees, Shengli Road, Sanli street, Huachong road and Heping Road, were set up in the District, and the number of residents' committees increased from 23 to 42. In addition, Hefei meat factory, Hefei paper factory and Hefei building materials experimental factory were set up.
After the "Cultural Revolution" movement in 1966, the district was under military control on May 14, 1967, and a military control group of the eastern urban area of Hefei city of the Chinese people's Liberation Army was established to take over the leadership of the whole district.
On February 29, 1968, the military control group was transformed into a revolutionary committee. The original jurisdiction of the district was changed into nine Street revolutionary committees. Namely: Qili station, Heping Road, Datong Road, station, Shengli Road, Mingguang Road, Hongguang Road, Sanli street, Tongling Road, etc. All the neighborhood committees below the street are built by military companies. This setting was restored to the neighborhood committee in 1973. There are 48 residents' committees in the district.
In 1979, with the approval of the Revolutionary Committee of Anhui Province, the neighborhood committee of the district was expanded to 55.
In January 1980, the name and establishment of the people's government were restored. The streets and neighborhood committees under its jurisdiction were restored to their original names in March of that year.
In 1989, 10 neighborhood committees and 71 family committees were set up, and the first military family service center in Anhui Province was established.
In May 1999, the district adjusted the number of neighborhood committees to 32, and then in September 2001, the family committees and neighborhood committees were integrated and transformed into 82 community neighborhood committees.
In March 2002, Yaohai district had jurisdiction over nine streets, Heping Road, Shengli Road, Datong Road, Tongling Road, Qili station, Sanli street, railway station, Mingguang Road and Hongguang road. From the original suburb, it is divided into one township in the east of the city, two towns of Qilitang and Daxing, and two streets of Changhuai and Fangmiao. Banqiao and wangchengdian villages in Xinghua town are divided from the original suburbs, and the area to the east of Banqiao River is under the jurisdiction of Qilitang town. From Feidong County to MODIAN township (located in the west of Feidong County and the original suburb of Hefei City, covering an area of nearly 50 square kilometers, with a population of 26000); eight villages, namely Sanhe, liudaying, Youfang, Dapeng, Luogang, Magang, Wanggang, Shicheng, and two neighborhood committees, namely Xinzhan and Dadian, under the jurisdiction of Longgang town of Feidong County are under the jurisdiction of Daxing Town (Note: in the process of implementation of the handover, since they are located in the transfer area, they are under the jurisdiction of Daxing town According to the request of Feidong County Party committee and county government, four villages (Luogang, Magang, Wanggang, Shicheng) and the neighborhood committee of Xinzhan were temporarily transferred to Yaohai district under the coordination of municipal Party committee and municipal government. As a result, four villages and one neighborhood (now changed into five communities) are still under the jurisdiction of Feidong County. After the adjustment, Yaohai district has jurisdiction over Chengdong and MODIAN townships, Qilitang and Daxing towns, and Heping Road, Shengli Road, Datong Road, Tongling Road, qilizhan, Sanli street, station, Mingguang Road, Hongguang, Changhuai and Fangmiao streets. It covers an area of 142.90 square kilometers and has a population of 365300, including 288200 non-agricultural population.
In 2004, Chengdong township was abolished and Chengdong sub district office was established. By the end of 2004, Yaohai district had jurisdiction over 12 streets, 2 towns and 1 township (including Changhuai street, Fangmiao street and Qilitang town under the jurisdiction of Xinzhan Development Zone).
In 2005, Huachong community and Dongqi community in Chengdong street were respectively under the jurisdiction of Tongling Road Street and qilizhan street, and they were respectively under the jurisdiction of Datong Street Heyu Road community and Mingguang Road dawangmiao community; Lai'an Road community and Tianchang Road community in Tongling Road street were under the jurisdiction of Sanli street; Triangle Line community and Hongxing Village Community in Station Street were under the jurisdiction of Xinzhan experimental area, and they were under the jurisdiction of Xinzhan experimental area Zhaocangfang village group of Huai street is under the jurisdiction of Station Street (temporarily managed by the new station); residents group of 536 courtyard, gate 4, Dayaowan community, Shengli road street is under the jurisdiction of station street; residents group of Tongling village 3, Datong Road Street is under the jurisdiction of Heping Road street.
In 2016, Yaohai District adjusted some streets, adjusted the scope of administrative jurisdiction of some streets, and multiple streets will be merged or divided into two. The overall plan for the adjustment is to merge Shengli road street and Station Street into a new Shengli road street. Datong Road Street and Heping Road Street will be merged into a new Heping Road street. The new Bengbu road of Changhuai street and the area to the west of Huainan railway line will be delimited, and Jiashan Road Street will be set up. Mingguang Road, Sanli street, Tongling Road, qilizhan, Chengdong, Hongguang, Fangmiao and the administrative areas of Daxing Town and Longgang Development Zone remain unchanged. After the adjustment, the total number of streets in the whole district has been reduced from 12 to 11.

Yaohai area is located in Yanshanian fault basin. The engineering geology is mainly composed of soft foundation and expansive soil, which is suitable for light buildings. Nanfei river passes through Yaohai district and forms a water system around Hefei city with Baohe, Yinhe, yuhuatang, huhutan, heichiba, Xinghua Park and Xiaoyaojin Park. As the "Mother River" of Hefei City, Nanfei river originates from the south of the Dabie Mountains and is a major tributary of Chaohu river system, with a total length of 70 km, passing through Hefei from west to Southeast, providing the main industrial and domestic water for Hefei city.
