Yicheng County is located in the southwest of Shanxi Province, under the jurisdiction of Linfen City. Located between Zhongtiao and Taiyue mountains, the county borders Qinshui in the East, Quwo in the west, Fushan and Xiangfen in the north, Jiangxian and Yuanqu in the south. In 618 of the first year of Wude in Tang Dynasty, Yicheng County was changed to Huizhou, which belongs to the county. The next year, Huizhou was changed to beizhou. Four years later, beihui Prefecture was abolished, and Jiangzhou was the county. Nine years later, Xiaoxiang county was abandoned into Yicheng County. In the second year of Tianyou (905), Huichuan county was changed, so it was ruled in Jiangzhou, 10 kilometers east of today's county.

The central and western part of Yicheng County is flat, and loess hills are widely distributed in the transition area between mountain and plain. Most areas are 500-1500 meters above sea level. The highest mountain in the southeast, Lishan shunwangping, at the junction of Yicheng, Yuanqu and Qinshui, is 2358 meters above sea level, and the lowest is 475.2 meters above sea level by the river in the southwest of Xiayang village.
