Dabancheng District Dabancheng district is under the jurisdiction of Urumqi City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It is located in the northern foot of Tianshan Mountain, the southern part of Junggar basin, the southern suburb of Urumqi, Dawan Township and Tuoli Township in the west, Turpan city and tuokesun County in the southeast, Lucaogou Township, Fukang City and Jimsar County in the north, and Tianger mountain in the middle of Tianshan Mountains in the south.
Dabancheng District, as the east gate of the capital, has been an important post station on the Silk Road since ancient times, connecting with the traffic hub of northern and southern Xinjiang. "Dabancheng" Uighur language is "the backbone of the mountain", that is, the pass. Since the Han and Tang Dynasties, it has been widely concerned as an important military and political place. As a result, an important military channel and traffic hub, baishuijian Road (today's Tu Wu expressway, baiyanggou Canyon Urumqi), has emerged As well as the military fortress "Baishui town", it became an important passing place of the new North Road of the silk road.
The region has four management committees (Chaiwopu District Management Committee, ulapo District Management Committee, Aiweiergou District Management Committee, Salt Lake District Management Committee), three townships and one town (Donggou Township, Xigou Township, Aksu Township, Daban Town), including 17 communities, 21 administrative villages and one pasture. With a total population of 63000 and a total area of 4759 square kilometers, it is the largest county-level District in Urumqi.
Historical evolution
In 640, Xizhou was established in Gaochang and Dabancheng was under the jurisdiction of Gaochang.
In the second year of Chang'an (702), Empress Wu Zetian set up the beitingdu mansion in Mohe city at the northern foot of Bogda mountain.
In 1762, the Qing government built a new city and garrisoned troops, named Jiade city. It was under the jurisdiction of Dihua county and Zhili Prefecture.
In 1934, Dihua County abolished the rural official system and set up Dabancheng town;
After the founding of new China, Dabancheng was changed into the seventh district of Dihua County in March 1950, and the town system was restored in 1995.
On August 10, 1999, the State Council approved to change the name of Nanshan Mining Area in Urumqi city to Nanquan district.
On March 9, 2002, Nanquan district was renamed Dabancheng District of Urumqi City, and the resident of the District People's government was moved from Yuergou to Dabancheng town.
On April 18, 2002, Dabancheng district was officially established.
In October 2008, the notice of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Government on adjusting the administrative boundary between Dabancheng District of Urumqi city and tuokesun County of Turpan region (No. 72 of new political development) agreed to put 428.4 square kilometers of Yuergou street and Xinghuo street in Dabancheng District of Urumqi City under the management of tuokesun County of Turpan region, and 260.6 square kilometers of Aiweiergou Street still under the management of Dabancheng district Administration. (Note: Shifeng town (Preparatory) was set up in early 2009 after the takeover of tokson county. In May 2010, Shifeng town (Preparatory) changed its name to alehui town and was established. It has three communities (Yuergou, Nanquan and Alagou)
On June 30, 2009, the agreement on adjusting the administrative boundary between Dabancheng district and tuokesun County of Urumqi was signed in Urumqi. According to the agreement, 428.4 square kilometers in the 689 square kilometers area of Aiweiergou in the original Nanshan Mining Area of Dabancheng District of Urumqi city are under the management of tuokesun County in Turpan region, and 260.6 square kilometers in the four coal mining areas and living areas of Xinjiang coking coal group and some areas to the West and South are under the management of Dabancheng district.
In July 2009, the original Yuergou sub district office moved to the Salt Lake area of Wulapo sub district, and changed its name to Salt Lake sub district office, which was officially established in December.

Dabancheng district is high in the north and low in the south, surrounded by mountains on three sides and open in the West. It is a semi closed state. It is the geographical and climatic boundary between the north and the south of Xinjiang. Along the Aksu River Valley and gaoyazi River Valley, there are sub central landforms.
