Potou District, a municipal district under the jurisdiction of Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province. Historical evolution
In the pre Qin period, Potou belonged to Nanyue, one of the Baiyue tribes. In the Hanshu geography annals, Zan was quoted as saying: "from Jiaozhi to Kuaiji, there are different castes in Baiyue.
In the 33rd year of the first emperor of Qin Dynasty (214 BC), Potou was under the jurisdiction of Xiang county.
The first year of emperor Gaozu of Han Dynasty (206 BC) belongs to the state of South Yue. In the sixth year of Yuanding (111 BC) of Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty, it belonged to Gaoliang County of Hepu County. In 220, the 25th year of Jian'an in the Eastern Han Dynasty, it belonged to Gaoliang county.
The fifth year of Wu Huangwu in the Three Kingdoms (226) belongs to Gaoliang County, Guangzhou.
In 471, the seventh year of emperor Taishi of the song and Ming Dynasties belonged to Pingding County, Gaoliang county.
In 589, Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty belonged to Wuchuan County, and in October 1899, the 25th year of Daoguang of the Tang, song, yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties belonged to Wuchuan County.
On October 14, the 25th year of Daoguang reign in the Qing Dynasty (November 16, 1899), the French colonists coerced the Qing government into signing the Sino French Canton Bay concession treaty, which included today's Potou, Nansan and Qiantang towns and two sub district offices of Maxie and nantiao. Today's Longtou town and Guandu town still belong to Wuchuan County.
In the early Republic of China, Longtou and Guandu were the fourth and eighth districts of Wuchuan respectively. In 1937, the two-level system of autonomy was implemented in the whole province, with county as the first level and township as the first level. Wuchuan set up Longtou and Shimen townships in Potou. In March 1943, Japan occupied Guangzhou Bay, and the French leased land fell into the rule of Japanese invaders. In the 34th year of the Republic of China (August 1945), after the surrender of Japan, the national government regained Guangzhou Bay and set up Zhanjiang City in 1946.
In December 1949, Zhanjiang City was liberated. Longtou (including Guandu) belonged to the seventh district of Wuchuan County; Potou (including Qiantang, MAXIE and nantiao) and Nansan were called the coastal area of suburbs.
In April 1952, Binhai District was abolished, and the jurisdiction was assigned to Wuchuan County, which was divided into Potou district and Nansan district. Potou district was the eighth district and Nansan district was the ninth district. However, Tiaodeng and MAXIE of Nansan still belong to the suburbs of Zhanjiang City. At the end of 1952, Leidong county was set up in Zhanjiang City. In December 1953, Nansan (including Tiaodeng and Beiya townships) was put under the jurisdiction of Leidong county.
In September 1958, Leidong county was abolished, and the southern third district was changed to a suburb of Zhanjiang City. In the same month, Wuchuan County became a commune, with the leading group named Chaoying commune and Potou called Hongqi commune. In October of the same year, Potou (including Qiantang and nantiao) and Longtou (including Guandu) were transferred from Wuchuan county to the suburb of Zhanjiang City.
In August 1970, the suburbs were abolished and Nansan, Potou and Longtou were directly under the jurisdiction of the municipal Revolutionary Committee. In January 1973, the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China approved the restoration of the suburbs, and the four communes in Potou district were put under the jurisdiction of the suburbs.
In September 1983, prefectures and cities were merged and the system of city governing county was implemented. Potou District, Longtou District, Guandu District, Nansan district and Qiantang District, which were originally under the jurisdiction of the suburbs, were newly established as the municipal district system.
