Yanchuan County, belonging to Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province, is located in the middle reaches of the Yellow River in the east of the Loess Plateau, 80 kilometers away from Yan'an City. It faces Yonghe county and Shilou County of Shanxi Province across the Yellow River in the East, Qingjian County of Yulin City in the north, Zichang city in the northwest, Baota District in the West and Yanchang County in the south. It is located at 36 ° 37 ′ 15 ″ - 37 ° 05 ′ 55 ″ N and 109 ° 36 ′ 20 ″ - 110 ° 26 ′ 44 ″ E. It is 74.25 kilometers long from east to west and 51.5 kilometers wide from north to south, with a total land area of 1983.87 square kilometers.
Yanchuan is the hometown of modern folk art in China named by the Ministry of culture. Li Ying, the only literary champion in Northern Shaanxi, and Li Weiwei, the poetess of Qing Dynasty, are all in Yanchuan. In modern times, the writers of Yanchuan, represented by Lu Yao, are well-known in the Chinese literary world. Paper cutting, cloth pile painting, Yangko, storytelling, Daoqing and other folk arts are unique, and folk art masters such as Gao Fenglian and Feng Shanyun have emerged.

In the Sui Dynasty, there were prefectures and counties in China. In the third year of kaihuang (583), the county system was abolished and the counties were unified by prefectures. Wen'an County was abandoned and Yanchuan County was established. The county government was moved to Yanchuan County, which is subordinate to Yanzhou. At the same time, Anmin county was renamed Jiwan county. In the third year of Daye (607), Jiwan county was merged into Yanchuan County. In the same year, the Prefecture was changed into a county, and Yanchuan County was subordinate to Yan'an county. In February of the 13th year of Daye (617), the powerful family of Shuofang county and yingyanglang General Liang Shidu fought against the Sui Dynasty and occupied the area north of Ganquan. Then they established their own Liang state and called themselves emperor. Their territory was under the jurisdiction of Liang state. The state of Liang established Wenzhou in Yanchuan County. Liang state has existed for 12 years, while Wenzhou has existed for less than one year.
In the Tang Dynasty, there were Dao, Zhou and Xian in China. In early September of the second year of Wude (619), Tang general Duan Decao conquered Wenzhou by surprise. In order to appease the Jihu people, Wenzhou was changed into Jizhou by adding prefectures and counties. In the southeast of Wenzhou, Xihe Prefecture was set up, governing Anmin County, Xiuwen County and sangyuan county. In the northwest of Wenzhou, Nanping Prefecture was set up, governing Yimen County and Chengping county. In 612, Nanping Prefecture and Yimen County were abolished and under the jurisdiction of Jizhou. The next year it became North kiwi. In 623, the overseas Chinese in Suizhou settled in Yanchuan County, and moved to Weiping county the next year. In the second year of Zhenguan (628), Xihe Prefecture was abolished, Xiuwen and sangyuan counties were merged into Anmin County, which was subordinate to Beiji Prefecture. At the same time, in order to avoid the Emperor Li Shimin's taboo, Anmin county was changed to Anren County. In the eighth year of Zhenguan (634), Beiji Prefecture was abolished and Yanchuan County was restored, which was under the jurisdiction of Guannei daoyan Prefecture together with Anren County. In the 22nd year of Zhenguan (648), Anren County was renamed Hongfeng county. In the first year of Shenlong (705), Hongfeng county was changed into Yanshui county.
In the Qing Dynasty, there were provinces, prefectures and counties in China. In December of the first year of Shunzhi (1644), the Qing army occupied Yanchuan County. Yanchuan County belongs to Yan'an Prefecture, yanyusui Road, Shaanxi Province.
After the revolution of 1911, the government and Zhili prefectures were abolished, and provinces, roads and counties were set up throughout the country. In 1913, Yanchuan County was changed into Yulin County. In 1933, Yanchuan County was directly under the jurisdiction of Shaanxi Province. In January 1935, the North Shaanxi special committee of the Communist Party of China set up Chiguang County in the west of Yanchuan County, the revolutionary base. In February, Yanshui county was set up in the east of Yanchuan County. In the same month, Chiguang county was renamed Yanchuan County. Yanchuan and Yanshui counties were under the jurisdiction of the Soviet government of Northern Shaanxi Province. In May, Yongping was liberated and Yanchuan Soviet government moved to Yongping town; in June, Yanchuan County was liberated and Yanshui Soviet government moved to Yongping town. In September 1937, Yanshui county was incorporated into Yanchuan County, and the county government was located in Yanchuan County, which was directly under the jurisdiction of the government of the Shaanxi Gansu Ningxia border region. In January 1943, Yanshui county was transferred to the office of the administrative inspector of the extended sub district of the Shaanxi Gansu Ningxia border region. In May 1949, Yanshui county was abolished and transferred to the office of the Northern Shaanxi Administrative Bureau.
In May 1950, it was under the jurisdiction of Suide district; in October 1955, it was under the jurisdiction of Yan'an district. In December 1958, Yanchuan County was merged into Yanchang county. Division of Ming and Qing Dynasties
In Ming Dynasty, Li Jia was set up under the county. During the Hongwu Period, there were nine households in the county, namely Wen'an, Xiaohe, Xin'an, Xiude, Zhongan, Pufeng, Zhongyi, Qingping and Yongxing. There are more than 11 households in each of them. In the third year of Chongzhen (1630), Luo Huoguang, the county magistrate, merged nine Li into four Li, namely Wen'an, Xiaohe and Xin'an as Yongfu Li, Xiude and Zhongan as Yongshu Li, Pufeng and Zhongyi as Yongning Li, Qingping and Yongxing as Yongan Li.
In the Qing Dynasty, the Ming system was followed. In 1831, there were still four Li, 90 Jia and 928 households. Yongfuli governs 27a 281, yongshuli governs 20A 191, yongningli governs 20A 206, YONGANLI governs 23a 250.
Regionalization of the Republic of China
At the beginning of the Republic of China, Sili was replaced by Jiuli, and its name was the same as that of Ming Dynasty. In the 20th year of the Republic of China (1931), Jiuli was divided into three districts, named by ordinal number, namely Wenan, Xiude and pufengli as the first district, Yongxing, Zhongan and qingpingli as the Second District, and Xiaohe, Zhongyi and XINANLI as the third district. There are 36 townships in the county, and each district has 12 townships under its jurisdiction.
Regionalization in the period of Soviet government
In the spring of 1935, Yanchuan County had five districts (East, South, West, North and middle) and 28 townships.
In December 1936, the East, South, West, North and central districts of Yanshui county were renamed Dongyang District, Qingyan District, Yongsheng District, Yongsheng district and Huanghe district respectively. At the same time, Yanchuan County was withdrawn from the Southern District and assigned to Yanchang county.

In September 1937, Yanshui county was merged into Yanchuan County, with jurisdiction over 7 districts and 53 townships.
In the autumn of 1941, the division of districts was adjusted and urban districts were added, with jurisdiction over 6 townships, including 8 districts and 51 townships.
In March 1949, Qingyan district and Dongyang district were withdrawn. There are 162 administrative villages and 641 natural villages in 39 townships of 6 districts. In April, the district governments were renamed district offices.
Regionalization after the founding of new China
In July 1950, the names of the districts were changed from the original name of the district government offices to the ordinal number. Yongping district is the first district, Yongsheng district is the Second District, Yuju district is the third district, urban district is the Fourth District, Yanshui district is the Fifth District, and Yongyong district is the Sixth District. Soon, 39 townships will be merged into 30 townships, with 5 townships under the jurisdiction of each district.
In June 1952, the Sixth District (forever District) was divided into two districts, namely, six districts and seven districts.
In July 1955, the district was renamed after the seat of the district government. The first district was renamed Yongping District, the Second District jiajiaping District, the third district wenanyi District, the Fourth District Chengshi District, the Fifth District Zhangjiahe District, the Sixth District yangjiagetai District, and the seventh district shaodaohe district. Some townships changed their names due to the changes of their residences. Sicun township was renamed Guli Township, leijiayao township was renamed majiayuan Township, and zhangjiagelao township was renamed yangjiapan township.
In March 1956, 40 townships in 7 districts were adjusted to 25 townships in 4 districts.
In September 1957, jiajiaping Township in Yongping district was changed into a township directly under the county.
In August 1958, 25 townships were merged into 12 townships. In September, 12 townships were converted into 7 people's communes. In December, Yanchuan County was incorporated into Yanchang County, and six people's communes were assigned to Yanchang county. Yongping commune belongs to Zichang County, and in January of the next year, it belongs to Yanchang county.
In September 1961, the organizational system of Yanchuan County was restored, the original seven people's communes were restored, and eight new people's communes were established.
Yongping town was established in August 1964. In February 1966, Yongping town was incorporated into Yongping commune. In December 1971, Yongping town was set up alone. In August 1973, Yongping town and Yongping people's commune merged again. Until April 1984, there were 15 communes, 345 production teams and 974 production teams in the county.
In May 1984, the establishment of people's communes, production brigades and production teams was abolished and replaced by the establishment of townships (towns), administrative villages and villagers' groups. 15 people's communes were rebuilt into 15 townships. In December, Zhangjiahe town was renamed Yanshuiguan town. After reconstruction, it has jurisdiction over 4 towns and 13 townships.
In 1998, four townships of yangjiagedi, Guanzhuang, Yuju and jiajiaping were changed into towns.
In December 2001, when the township was withdrawn and merged into the town, shaodaohe township was withdrawn and merged into yangjiagedi Town, Nanhe township was withdrawn and merged into Majiahe Township, and Heilongguan township was withdrawn and merged into Yanchuan town. After the merger, 8 towns and 6 townships will be reserved.
In July 2011, fengjiaping Township and gaojiatun Township were abolished and merged into Yongping Town, Hejiawan Township and yanchasi Township were abolished and merged into Yanchuan town. As of 2015, Majiahe Township, tugang Township and Yuju town were abolished again. As of 2016, eight towns were under jurisdiction, namely Yongping Town, jiajiaping Town, Guanzhuang Town, wenanyi Town, Yanchuan Town, Yanshuiguan Town, yangjiagedi town and qiankunwan town.
