Basu County, which belongs to Changdu city of Tibet Autonomous Region, is located in the east of Tibet Autonomous Region and the southeast of Changdu city. It is located in the upper reaches of Nujiang River. The altitude of Baima town is 3260 meters. It is adjacent to Zuogong county and Chaya County in the East, Chayu County in the south, Luolong county and Bomi County in Linzhi city in the west, karuo district and leiwuqi County in Changdu city in the north. The county covers an area of 12564.28 square kilometers (in 2014), 210 kilometers long from north to South and 80 kilometers wide from east to west. It governs 4 towns and 10 townships, with a total population of 39021 (in 2010), including 19790 males and 19231 females, with a total number of 6999 households.
There are Hengduan Mountains in the southwest of Basu county and Nujiang River in the northeast. The climate type is semi-arid monsoon climate in plateau temperate zone. Baima town is 266km away from karuo District, where Changdu government is located, and 861km away from Lhasa.
In 2016, the county's GDP reached 674 million yuan.
On December 9, 2019, Basu county was approved by the people's Government of Tibet Autonomous Region to withdraw from poverty-stricken counties (districts).
Historical evolution
"Ba Su" means "village at the foot of warrior mountain" in Tibetan.
In 1725, Tibet was under the management of Gongdelin temple in Lhasa. In the late Qing Dynasty, it was incorporated into Enda county.
