The origin of place names
Zhao Xiangzi built the city in the north of Ganshui (today's Beiguan guijianggou). Because the city was built by Zhao Xiangzi, it was named "Xiangyuan".
History of construction
Xiangyuan has a long history. According to the historical data, as early as two or three thousand years ago, the ancestors recuperated on this land.
In Yu's time, Xiangyuan belonged to Jizhou; in Yushun's time, it was Bingzhou.
In the spring and Autumn period, it belonged to the state of Li; in the early Warring States period, the three families of Zhao, Han and Wei divided into Jin, Xiangyuan first belonged to South Korea, and then returned to the state of Zhao.
In April 1940, Xiangyuan county was divided into Xiangyuan county and Xiangxi county.
From 1941 to 1957, the jurisdiction was adjusted many times.
In September 1958, Xiangyuan county and Qinxian county were merged into Xiangqin county. Later, Qinyuan county was merged into Qinxian county. The former Xiangyuan county was called Qindong county.
In September 1959, the organizational system of Xiangyuan county was restored, which was subordinate to the administrative office of Southeast Shanxi.
In May 1985, the system of city governing county was put into effect, which was under the jurisdiction of Changzhi City.
