Zhangbei County, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, Zhangbei County is located in Bashang area in the northwest of Hebei Province and the southern edge of Inner Mongolia Plateau, 109 km from east to west and 67 km from north to south. The southeast of Zhangbei County is at the junction of Chongli district. Huapiling is the highest point in the county, with an altitude of 2128 meters. The terrain in the north and middle of Zhangbei County is flat, gradually lower to the northwest, and Angulinao is the lowest point, with an altitude of 1300 meters. The majority of the residents are Han nationality, accounting for 98% of the total population, as well as Mongolian, Hui, Manchu and so on. Zhangbei County is the closest plateau area to Beijing and Tianjin. It is a summer resort with cool climate in summer.
Zhangbei County is listed as the first batch of national new urbanization comprehensive pilot areas. In November 2019, it will be included in the list of the second batch of counties (districts) meeting the water-saving society construction standards. Historical evolution
Zhangbei County has a history of 4000 years. In ancient times, the northern nomads left their footprints of activities, which were called "Tianxian ruminant farm" in ancient times.
During the Shang and Zhou dynasties, there was a nomadic tribe in the vast area of northern China, including Zhangbei County, which was called "Guifang" at that time.
In the spring and Autumn period, Zhangbei County was a state without end. Wuzhong belonged to Shanrong clan. At the beginning of Zhou Dynasty, he was attached to Zhou Dynasty. Later, he was defeated by Zhongxing Muzi, a doctor of Jin State, and finally Jin Dynasty was destroyed.
In the late spring and Autumn period, this county was the sphere of influence of Donghu nomadic tribes in Northeast China. In 279 BC, Yan attacked Donghu and forced it to retreat for more than 1000 Li. The county was attached to Shanggu Prefecture. By the late Warring States period, he had occupied the northern part of Qin, Zhao and Yan. In the early Han Dynasty, Emperor Liu Bang failed in his Northern Expedition, so he had to make peace with the Xiongnu and divide the border. Since then, the county has been changed to Xiongnu, and then returned to the Han Dynasty as the residence of Wuhuan.
Until the early Northern Wei Dynasty, for Gongwei capital Pingcheng (today's Datong), six military strongholds were set up along the northern border to prevent the Rouran nationality, known as the six towns. Huaihuang town was established in Zhangbei County (520). After the failure of the six towns uprising, the Northern Wei regime collapsed and split into the eastern and Western Wei, which was soon replaced by the Northern Qi and Northern Zhou. Tang Zhenguan returned to Tang Dynasty in four years, and then returned to Khitan about fifty years later.

Ming is the frontier. In the third year of Hongwu (1370) of Ming Dynasty, Xinghe Prefecture was established. Four years later, it became the Yuan Dynasty and was abolished. In the seventh year of the Ming Dynasty, Lanyu was promoted to Xinghe again. Since then, the county has entered the territory of the Ming Dynasty. In 1397, Xinghe garrison was set up. In 1422, Yongle County was conquered by Mongolia and then moved to Xuanhua.
During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the immigration to the border was substantial, and the historical development of the region changed greatly. During the reign of emperor Shunzhi in Qing Dynasty, the county belonged to official pastoral land and official wasteland. In 1675, most of the county belonged to the nomadic land of Xianghuang Banner in Chahar. In the second year of Yongzheng reign (1724), the office of Tongzhi, a director of Zhangjiakou, was set up, which was gradually established.
At the beginning of the Republic of China (1913), the Department was changed into a county, the territory was transferred, and the division was made into a bend. It is known as bashangshou County, which is named "Zhangbei" because it is located in the north of Zhangjiakou.
At the end of December 1935, the Japanese and puppets invaded. In January of the next year, the Mongolian Political Council set up Chahar League (governing today's Zhangbei), which belongs to the county.
After the victory of the Anti Japanese war in 1945, the Communist Party of China established Zhangbei County Government to take over the county, which is subordinate to the seventh special district of Chahar Province, Shanxi Chahar Hebei border region, with one city (namely Zhangbei city) and nine districts.
In October 1946, the Fu Zuoyi Department of the Kuomintang captured Zhangbei. The armed forces under the leadership of the Communist Party of China set up Zhangbei Baochang United county. In June, they united the county branch and established Zhangbei County Government. On December 15, 1948, Zhangbei County was liberated for the second time.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, it followed the old system. On November 15, 1952, it was under the jurisdiction of Zhangjiakou District, Hebei Province. In May 1959, Zhangjiakou district and Zhangjiakou City merged into Zhangjiakou City, which belongs to Zhangbei County. In May 1961, Zhangjiakou district was restored, and the county was subordinate to Zhangjiakou district. In 1970, Zhangjiakou district was changed to Zhangjiakou District, which belongs to the county. At the end of June 1993, Zhangjiakou district was abolished, and it was established in Zhangjiakou City, and the county was subordinate to Zhangjiakou City. On January 30, 2005, the people's Government of Hebei Province, in order to speed up the county's economic development and promote the process of urbanization, determined Zhangbei County as the first group of counties (cities) to expand the management authority, still under the jurisdiction of Zhangjiakou City.

Zhangbei town
It is located in the center of Zhangbei County, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province. With an area of 141.8 square kilometers and a population of 49000, the town government is located at 8 East Street. It has jurisdiction over 21 administrative villages including shuerwan, Xincun, Xiguan, Dongguan, yongshengchang, Nanhaoqian, jiubushu, cainaobao, heshangzhuang, huangtuwan, Xiliang, Xiaoliugou, wayaowan, Maliantan, ci'ershan, damiaotan, haiziwa, yuanquanchang, xingxiugou, chenjungou and sandaowa.
Guild town
Gonghui town is located in the northwest of Zhangbei County, adjacent to erquanjing and mantouying Township in the southeast, Hailiutu Township in the southwest, Kangbao County in the north, Angulinao in the West and daxiwan Township in the northwest. It is 18 kilometers from east to west and 19 kilometers from north to south, with a total area of 228 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 20 administrative villages and 43 natural villages.
Before the establishment of the village, there were Mongolian people herding livestock, named salahudong. In 1905, housekeeper Lin of Xinghe city came here to sell or rent land, which was jointly purchased by 20 Catholics. In 1919, the church was established, which was called "Gongji hall". After that, the local power was controlled by four Catholic presidents (Ruan Fu, Yao Zhong, Lin Zhi and sun Wanxi). They changed the word "Gong" of gongjitang and the word "Hui" of the president to shalahudong. At the beginning of liberation, it was the government residence of three and six districts. In 1958, it belonged to Hongxing commune. In 1961, it was set up. It got its name because the commune was located in the guild. It is 26 kilometers northwest of the county. In 1983, it was changed into a guild town.
The terrain of Gonghui town is mostly flat and Sandy. The southwest edge is mountainous, and the northeast is hilly, with an altitude of 1340-1430 meters. Heishui river runs through the whole town, connecting Angulinao reservoir and huanggainao reservoir.
The highway from Zhangjiakou to Kangbao, Shangyi, Shangdu and Huade of Inner Mongolia passes through the town, which is the main traffic road from Bashang to Inner Mongolia.

Xiaoertai town
Xiaoertai town is located 10 kilometers to the north of Zhangbei County, Hebei Province. The town government is located in xiaoertai village. It covers an area of 201.5 square kilometers and has a population of 15800. It has jurisdiction over 21 administrative villages including xiaoertai, xinfangying, Xitan, sannaobao, xiaoxiliang, heishanpu, kongdunong, daxiliang, houhezi, huangyangwa, Qilihe, huashaoying, nannihe, xihaoqian, wujiawa, mayashi, Saihanba, yangpanwa, Desheng, jiucaigou and liutiaoba.
Xiaoertai town belonged to Dongfeng commune in 1958. In 1961, xiaoertai commune was newly built. In 1984, it was changed into a township. On the morning of July 11, 2013, xiaoertai Township held the unveiling ceremony of withdrawing the township and establishing a town.
