Xishan District Xishan District, which belongs to Kunming City, Yunnan Province, is one of the four main urban areas of Kunming, located in the southwest of the main urban area of Kunming. It is adjacent to Wuhua District and Guandu District in the East, across from Chenggong District, Jinning District in the south, Anning City and Lufeng County in Chuxiong Prefecture in Kunming in the west, and Fumin County and Wuhua District in the north. Xishan District has a total area of 881.32 square kilometers, including 660.49 square kilometers of mountainous area, accounting for 74.94%; and 220.83 square kilometers of dam area, accounting for 25.06%. Dianchi Lake area has 68 kilometers of coastline. The highest altitude is 2622m and the lowest is 1731m. As of 2017, 2461 enterprises have settled in.
Xishan District has 10 sub district offices, and 25 ethnic minorities, including Yi, Bai, Hui, Miao, Naxi, Zhuang, Hani, Lisu, man and Mongolia, live in the area. There are Jinma Biji square, Xishan Scenic Spot, Nie'Er tomb, Nanyang mechanic memorial hall, Dianchi sunrise, Taihua temple, Biji Yulan garden, Qianbu Yadeng road and Liangwang summer resort site, Longmen cliff and small stone forest. In November 2019, it will be selected as the second batch of counties (districts) that meet the water-saving society construction standards.

In the 15th year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (1382), there were 11 prefectures and counties in Yunnan Province, including Kunming and Kunyang. There are 25 Li villages in Kunming County, including heilinli, shalangli, banzhuangli, liyili, pupingli, shibili and gaoyili.
In the Tongzhi and Guangxu years of the late Qing Dynasty (1862-1897), Li was changed into Bao, and Kunming county had 43 Bao under its jurisdiction. Among them, 15 Bao, such as Dayu Bao, Haiyuan Bao, Xihua Bao, Shalang Bao, Changkou Bao, Tudui Bao, daxibao, Zhangjiabao, Gaoyi Bao, Mingming Bao, Duoyi Bao, lemu Bao, toucun Bao, Fanzhu Bao, Taoyuan Bao, etc., were present Xishan area. In 1939, the national government carried out the Baojia system. There were 10 townships and 6 towns in Kunming County, including Dayu Town, Lingyuan Town, Beixin Town, yuan town, Xibi town and Fandi town. The system of Kunming county was abolished after the merger of cities and counties in 1953.

In October 1958, three people's communes, Dongfeng, Tuanjie and the upper reaches, were established and stationed in liangjiahe, Longtan and Changkou respectively. The original 22 small townships and the two townships of Jinhua and Honglian, which were divided into Wuhua District, were changed into management districts, with a total of 24 management districts and 3 sub district offices.
In May 1960, Xishan District was transformed into seven people's communes: Dongfeng, Hailian, Biji, Tuanjie, Gulu, Shangshang and Shalang. The communes are located in liangjiahe, Longyuan village, Gaoyi, Longtan, lubozu, Changkou and Shalang.
In 1960, it became Haixing people's commune of Anning county. In 1959, it was transformed into Haikou state farm of Kunming city. In April 1961, it was transferred to Xishan District and changed into Haikou People's commune, which is located in Zhongxin street.
In January 1963, Xishan District divided 8 people's communes into 21 people's communes.
In 1984, the commune was changed into an office.
In February 1988, the township system was reformed. The office was transformed into township (town), and Dongfeng and Hailian were changed into Majie and heilinpu. It established Majie Town, heilinpu Town, Biji town and Haikou Town, United Yi Bai Township, Gulu Yi Bai Township, Shalang Bai Township and Changkou Township, and renamed the former small township office. In 1992, the district had jurisdiction over 4 towns, 4 townships, 1 sub district office, 62 rural offices, 454 natural villages, 380 villagers' committees, 568 production cooperatives and 13 urban residents' committees.
In 2000, Xishan District governed one street, four towns and four townships.
On June 20, 2003, Majie town and heilinpu town were formally withdrawn from the town to set up streets.
On June 3, 2004, the State Council approved the adjustment of the administrative divisions of Kunming: Wuhua District, Panlong District, Guandu District and Xishan District.
On January 1, 2005, the four main urban districts of Kunming city officially exercised the administrative, economic and social affairs management authority according to the new district.
In 2006, Tuanjie Yi Bai Township and Gulu Yi Bai Township were abolished and Tuanjie town was established. The town government was stationed in the former Tuanjie Yi Bai township government.
On July 31, 2009, Biji Town, Haikou town and Tuanjie town were abolished and Biji, Haikou and Tuanjie sub district offices were established.

Xishan District is located in the northwest edge of Dianchi basin. The terrain is high in the northwest and low in the southeast. The terrain in the northwest and North fluctuates greatly.
