In the fifth year of Yongzheng reign of Qing Dynasty (1727), it was divided into four villages, namely Changba, Sanglang, Luohu, etc. on the North Bank of Hongshui River and luofan, Ceheng, etc. in Xilong Prefecture, which belonged to Nanlong Prefecture. In January 1914, Zhenfeng county was re established and attached to Xingyi Prefecture. In 1923, Tao was abolished and Zhili Province was established in Zhenfeng county. In 1935, it was transferred to the third administrative supervision district (the special district office was set up in Xingren). In 1940, Wangmo county was established to the east of Shuijiang River and Beipanjiang River, and Zhenfeng county was fixed since then.
On December 24, 1949, Zhenfeng county was liberated.

In December 1952, Xingren district was renamed Xingyi District, and Zhenfeng county was subordinate to Xingyi district.
In July 1956, Xingyi special region was abolished. In August, Qiannan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture was established, and Zhenfeng county was subordinate to Qiannan Prefecture. In December 1958, Zhenfeng county was abolished and merged into Xingren County, which was assigned to Anshun district. In August 1961, Zhenfeng county was restored to Anshun district. In 1963, it was returned to Qiannan Autonomous Prefecture and managed by Anshun special region.

Gonglong mountain, the main peak of the western leading mountain, is the highest point in the territory, with an altitude of 1966.8 meters. Luofan River in the southeast meets Beipan River, which is the lowest point in the county, with an altitude of 324.0 meters and a relative elevation difference of 1642.8 meters. Due to the different lithology of the formation, under the interaction of internal and external pressure, a variety of landforms are formed in the territory. According to its origin, it can be divided into three main forms: mountain plain and valley, low mountain and hill, karst basin and valley and mountain.
