Tianzhen County, located in the northeast of Datong City, Shanxi Province, belongs to Datong City, Shanxi Province. It is located at the junction of Shanxi, Hebei and Inner Mongolia provinces (regions), adjacent to Huai'an County in Hebei Province in the East, Yangyuan County in Hebei Province in the south, Yanggao County in the west, and Xinghe County in Inner Mongolia in the north.
Tianzhen County, with a total land area of 1718 square kilometers, has jurisdiction over 5 towns, 7 townships and 235 administrative villages. It is a key county for national poverty alleviation and development work, and is listed as a contiguous poverty-stricken area from Yanshan mountain to Taihang Mountain by the state.
Tianzhen county has a long history. It was inhabited as early as the Neolithic age. It was Yanling Town of Zhao state in the Warring States period, Yanling County in the Western Han Dynasty, Tiancheng army in the Tang Dynasty, Tiancheng County in the Liao Dynasty, Tiancheng fort in the Jin Dynasty, Tiancheng Wei and Zhenlu Wei in the Ming Dynasty; Tianzhen county was formed in the third year of Shunzhi (1646) of the Qing Dynasty, and Tianzhen County in the third year of Yongzheng (1725). In 2013, the GDP of Tianzhen County reached 1.89 billion yuan.
On February 27, 2020, with the approval of Shanxi provincial government, Tianzhen County withdrew from poverty-stricken counties.
Historical evolution
People lived as early as the Neolithic age. Zhou was the domain of the dynastic state, and during the Warring States period, it was the Yanling Town of the Zhao state.
Yanling County was established in Qin Dynasty, and Yangyuan and Yanling counties were established in Western Han Dynasty. Guangmu county was set up in the Northern Wei Dynasty, belonging to Fuhua county.
Yuquan post was built in Sui Dynasty, belonging to Mayi county and Yuquan County later. In the Tang Dynasty, it was still called Yuquan post, with Tiancheng army behind it.
During the Five Dynasties and the Northern Zhou Dynasty, it belonged to Yunzhong county. Tiancheng county was established in Liao Dynasty. Tiancheng castle was established in Jin Dynasty, and Tiancheng county was still named in Yuan Dynasty. In 1262, it was changed to Xinghe road.
In 1371, it was transferred to Datong Prefecture. Hongwu 26 years (1393) home Tiancheng Wei and home town Lu Wei, Shanxi is the capital command department. In the first year of Hongxi's reign, Zhenlu guard was added.
In 1646, Tiancheng and Zhenlu were called Tianzhen Wei. In 1725, Tianzhen county was called Tianzhen County, belonging to Datong Prefecture.
The Republic of China belongs to Yanmen road. During the Anti Japanese War, the mountainous area in the south of Tianzhen county was the base area, belonging to the Shanxi Chahar Hebei border area.
Tianzhen county was liberated in March 1948.
It was incorporated into Yanggao County in 1958,
Tianzhen county was restored in 1961.

The county government is located in Yuquan town.
In January 2018, majiazao township of Yanggao County was under the jurisdiction of Tianzhen county.
