It has a subtropical monsoon humid climate, with 1812 hours of sunshine, 180 days of frost free period, 926 mm of annual rainfall, small annual temperature difference, large daily temperature difference, warm in winter and cool in summer, and an average temperature of 18 degrees in summer.
In 2016, Weining Yi, Hui and Miao Autonomous County achieved a GDP of 21.515 billion yuan, an increase of 14.1% over 2015. On December 6, 2019, it was selected as the pilot unit of promoting the quality improvement of farmers' cooperatives in the whole county.

Weining Yi, Hui and Miao Autonomous County is located in the southwest of Liangzhou in the Xia Dynasty, in the northwest of Guifang in the Yin and Zhou dynasties, in the south of Shu in the spring and Autumn period, and in the west of Yelang in the Warring States period.
In the Qin Dynasty, it belonged to Xiang County, bordered by Liuchong River and the Southern soil of Shu county.
In Han Dynasty, it belonged to Qianwei County; in Shu Han Dynasty, it belonged to Zhuti county.
In Jin, song and Southern Qi dynasties, it was called nanzhuti County; in Liang and Chen dynasties, it was led by Nanning state, but it was actually owned by the indigenous aristocrats.
In the Sui Dynasty, it belonged to Lulu tribe. In the Tang Dynasty, Jimi small state was called Baozhou. Deshengpo is the location of Baozhou. In the Five Dynasties, it was bafanwugu. In the Northern Song Dynasty, it was the WUSA Department of Jimi Prefecture under the leadership of Shaoqing Prefecture; in the Southern Song Dynasty, it was controlled by Dali state.
In 1276, wusalu was set up; in 1278, wusalu was renamed the general office of the army and the people; in 1284, wusalu was changed to xuanfusi; in 1287, wusalu was promoted to xuanweisi, which belongs to Yunnan Province. WUSA, the place under its jurisdiction, is now Weining, Hezhang, etc. After Emperor Shun of the Yuan Dynasty to the first year (1335), it was transferred to Sichuan Province.
In the 14th year of Hongwu (1381) of Ming Dynasty, wuzajiang was granted the title of magistrate of Shibu wuzatu, who was subordinate to the general secretary of Yunnan Province; in the 15th year (1382), wuzawei command department was set up, who was subordinate to the general secretary of Yunnan Province; in the 16th year (1383), wuzafu was subordinate to the general secretary of Sichuan Province; in the 17th year (1384), wuzafu was promoted to the military and civilian government. In the 12th year of Yongle (1414), wusawei was transferred to Dusi of Guizhou.
Qing Kangxi four years (1665) calm water, Xi'an Kun, wusa'an Chongsheng. In 1666, wusatu Prefecture in Sichuan Province was changed to Weining Prefecture. It was named Anning of Weizhen and was subordinate to Guizhou Province. In 1687, Dading, Qianxi and Pingyuan were subordinate to Weining Prefecture. In the seventh year of Yongzheng reign, Weining Prefecture was granted the title of state, belonging to Dading Prefecture.
In 1913, Weining Prefecture was abolished, Weining County was set up, and deshengpo sub county was set up, which was subordinate to the fourth administrative Commissioner of Guizhou Province; in 1916, deshengpo sub county was moved to Hezhang.
In 1949, the people's united government of all ethnic groups and all walks of life in Weining was established. On November 11, 1954, with the approval of the State Council, Weining County was abolished and Weining Yi, Hui and Miao Autonomous Region was established. In 1955, it was renamed Weining Yi, Hui and Miao Autonomous County, belonging to Bijie Prefecture.
Since July 1, 2013, Weining Yi, Hui and Miao Autonomous County has become a direct pilot in Guizhou Province.
On November 27, 2013, the people's Government of Guizhou Province approved the establishment of wuligang street, Liuqiao street, Haibin street and Shanqiao street from Caohai Town, Xiaohai town and Yangjie town of Weining County;
On August 2, 2019, Guizhou Provincial People's Government approved the establishment of Kaihua street and xiongshan street from wuligang street in Weining County.
In November 2020, Weining Yi, Hui and Miao Autonomous County officially withdrew from poverty-stricken counties.
