Butuo, also known as Jila Bute, is a transliteration of "Bute" in Yi language. "Buto" refers to hedgehog, "Bute" refers to pine. Where there are hedgehogs and pine trees. In 1952, Butuo county was established. In 1960, it was withdrawn to Puge county. In 1962, it was restored. Butuo county is the birthplace of the Yi Torch Festival, known as "the hometown of Chinese Yi torch culture", "the hometown of Chinese Yi Torch Festival" and "the holy land of Torch Festival".

Historical evolution
Butuo county is a newly built County after liberation. Before liberation, it was subordinate to Zhaojue, Puge and Xichang. In the slave society and feudal society, Butuo was a chieftain's territory because of its inconvenient transportation. Although the rulers of previous dynasties put Butuo in their territory, it was difficult to control and administer it. Therefore, there were few records of Butuo in the existing literature.
In the sixth year of Yuanding (111 BC), Emperor Wudi of Han Dynasty set up Yueyi County, which belonged to Yizhou. Butuo was initially under the jurisdiction of Yueyi Shao. During the period of Wangmang (9-23 years), Zeng gengyue was under the jurisdiction of Jicui County, Butuo was under the jurisdiction of Jisong county.
In the Eastern Han Dynasty, Yuepu county was restored.
From the Three Kingdoms to the two Jin Dynasties, Butuo was still under the jurisdiction of Yueyi Prefecture.
In the Southern Qi Dynasty, Yue Yi county was changed into Yue Yi Liao County, and Butuo was under the jurisdiction of Yue Yi Liao county.
In the fifth year of the Northern Zhou Dynasty (570), more Yue Tao County was under the jurisdiction of Yan Zhou, and Butuo was under the jurisdiction of Yan Zhou.
In 583, Butuo was still under the jurisdiction of Yanzhou. Kaihuang six years (586) changed to Xining, Butuo is under the jurisdiction of Xining. Kaihuang eighteen years (598) and renamed Cuizhou, Butuo is under the jurisdiction of Cuizhou. In the third year of Daye reign of emperor Yang of Sui Dynasty (607), Bulu Prefecture was changed into Yueyi county. Butuo was under the jurisdiction of Yueyi county.
In 618, the first year of Wude in Tang Dynasty, Yuepu county was changed to Songzhou, which was under the jurisdiction of jiannandao and Butuo. In the first year of Tianbao (742), Cuizhou was changed into YueSong county. In the first year of Qianyuan (758), Songzhou was restored and Butuo's ownership remained unchanged. In 863, Songzhou was ruled by Nanzhao state, which set up Adu department in Butuo area and governed temuli Township, which was subordinate to Jianchang Prefecture.
During the period of pre and post Shu (907-936) of the Five Dynasties, Butuo was still the Adu Department of Jianchang Prefecture of Nanzhao state, and its governing land was still enough for today's temuli township. In 936, Nanzhao was destroyed and Dali state was established. Butuo was the Adu Department of Jianchang Prefecture of Dali state, and its governing land was still temuli township.
Butuo was still the Adu Department of Jianchang Prefecture of Dali state from the beginning of Northern Song Dynasty (960) to the end of Southern Song Dynasty (1275).
In Yuan Dynasty, the former Dali state was under the jurisdiction of Yunnan Province. In 1275, Jianchang road was set up and Butuo was named as Jianchang lulizhou, which governs today's temuli township.
Before the 15th year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (1382), Butuo was under the jurisdiction of Yunnan Province. It belonged to silizhou, the military and civilian commander of jianchangwei, and ruled the present temuli township. Later, it was under the jurisdiction of Sichuan. Lizhou waste, Butuo is BiShe county (now Zhaojue County) under the jurisdiction.
At the beginning of Qing Dynasty, ADU Zhengchang lawsuit was set up, which was governed in Puge county. Butuo was under the jurisdiction of Adu Zhengchang lawsuit. Yongzheng six years (1728) set Adu deputy chief lawsuit, the session of Xichang County under the jurisdiction of the rule of today's temuli township. In August 1910, Xichang county was divided into Zhaojue County, and Butuo county was under the jurisdiction of Zhaojue County.
In August 1939, the Putuo political guidance area was set up in Butuo area, which was later abolished. In 1944, the Ningxi special political guidance area was established, and Butuo was under the jurisdiction of the Ningxi special political guidance area. In 1947, Puge was set up as the Governing Council, and Butuo was under the jurisdiction of Puge.
In December 1952, the Butuo Office of the people's Government of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Region of Xikang province was established,
On March 28, 1955, the people's Committee of the county was established, and Butuo county was officially established. The county governs temuli township. On October 1 of the same year, Xikang province was incorporated into Sichuan Province.
On January 7, 1960, the organizational system of Butuo county was abolished and merged into Puge County, which governed temuli township.

(1) Jiudu Township, Shaluo Township, Muer Township and Huolie Township were abolished and Jiudu town was established.
