Historical evolution
Beibei, formerly known as baibei, began in the early Qing Dynasty. Because the town was built on the Bank of Jialing River, there are white stone from the bank across the river, called "Beishi" and named. In the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, baibei town was set up in Baxian county. In the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, because baibei was located in the north of Baxian County, it was renamed Beibei town.
Beibei had little development since its establishment in the early Qing Dynasty. At the beginning of the 20th century, under the Warlord's separatist regime, banditry was rampant in the small Three Gorges area of Jialing River at the junction of Jiangbei County, Baxian County, Bishan County and Hechuan county. It belongs to Eastern Sichuan.
In the fifth year of the Republic of China (1916), the special group gorge Prevention Bureau of Jiangbei Baxian Bishan Hechuan county was set up in the mausoleum of King Yin of Eastern Sichuan. It was responsible for clearing bandits in 48 towns within 50 kilometers from Shaximiao of Hechuan county to Ciqikou of Baxian county. After that, with the change of garrison troops, Xiafang organization was renamed as garrison, Xiafang headquarters, jiangba Bihe special group Xiafang regiment Bureau, etc. It belongs to Dongchuan Road. Before the 25th year of the Republic of China (1936), they were public security joint defense organizations in the Three Gorges area of Jialing River, which did not have the nature of local power.
In 1936, Lu Zuofu, a famous patriotic industrialist who was then the director of the Xiafang regiment Bureau, abolished the Xiafang Bureau in order to carry out the rural construction plan. On April 1 of the same year, he designated Huangjue Town, Wenxing Town, Eryan Town, Beibei town and Chengjiang town of Bishan County in Jiangbei County to set up the Jialingjiang Three Gorges rural construction experimental area. In addition to the financial and judicial powers, the District Department has set up Beibei town.
On March 1, 1942, the Sichuan provincial government transferred it to the executive yuan of the national government for approval, and changed the experimental district office to Beibei Administration Bureau, making Beibei a complete local government at the county level.
On December 2, 1949, Beibei was liberated. On the 10th, Beibei branch of Chongqing military control commission of the Chinese people's Liberation Army was established to take over the old regime.
On February 1, 1950, according to the order of chairman Liu Bocheng of Southwest Military and political Commission, Beibei administrative office of Chongqing Municipal People's government was established. In April, Beibei was changed into the eighth District of Chongqing, which is a first-class District, equivalent to the prefecture level.
In January 1951, the administrative office of East Sichuan was moved to Beibei, which was under the jurisdiction of East Sichuan and renamed Beibei administrative office of East Sichuan people's administrative office. On July 5, the Central People's Government approved the establishment of Beibei city in eastern Sichuan. On November 1, Beibei Municipal People's government was established, which is the seat of East Sichuan administrative office and has six districts.
In September 1952, the Central People's government established Sichuan Province, Eastern Sichuan district was abolished, and Beibei was put under the management of Chongqing City, Sichuan Province.
In March 1953, the organizational system of Beibei city and its jurisdiction was abolished and changed to the Sixth District of Chongqing.
In October 1955, the Sixth District of Chongqing was renamed Beibei District of Chongqing, and the people's Government of the Sixth District of Chongqing was renamed Beibei District People's Committee of Chongqing.
In October 1968, the Revolutionary Committee of Beibei District was established to replace the people's Committee of Beibei District to perform the functions of local government.
In December 1980, the district Revolutionary Committee was abolished and the people's Government of Beibei District was established.
In September 2004, in order to promote the construction of Chengnan New District, the party and government organs such as the district Party committee and the district government moved from the old city to the administrative center building of zhuangyuanbei in Chengnan New District.
