Jiulongpo District, located in the southwest of Chongqing, is an important part of Yuzhong Peninsula surrounded by the Yangtze River and Jialing River.
Jiulongpo District borders Yuzhong District, Shapingba District, Dadukou District, Bishan district and Jiangjin District, and faces Nanan District and Banan District across the river. The area is 36.12km long from north to South and 30.4km wide from east to west, covering an area of 431.86km2. It has 19 towns (9 streets and 10 towns) with a permanent resident population of 1.23 million. In 2019, the GDP will reach 146.288 billion yuan, an increase of 6.3%; in the first half of 2020, the GDP will reach 71.319 billion yuan, keeping the second place in the city.
The tourism resources of Jiulongpo District are mainly natural landscape and human resources, including Longmen array scenic spot, Hailan Yuntian, Chongqing Zoo, Baguo City, Baishiyi Forest Park, etc. It has won the honorary titles of "China's most beautiful leisure resort", "pilot city of intellectual property strategy promotion project for small and medium-sized enterprises" and so on. On October 20, 2020, it will be included in the list of national double support model cities (counties).
Historical evolution
In the pre Qin period, Jiulong slope belongs to Jiangzhou of Bazi state.
During the Qin and Han Dynasties, the area belonged to Jiangzhou County, Bajun county.
During the northern and Southern Dynasties, in 487, Jiangzhou county was changed to Dianjiang County, and the territory belonged to Dianjiang County; in 561, Dianjiang County and Zhixian county were replaced by Baxian County, and the territory belonged to Baxian county.
From Sui, Tang to the end of the Northern Song Dynasty, it was Baxian County of Yuzhou. From the end of the Northern Song Dynasty to the beginning of the Southern Song Dynasty, it was Baxian County of Gongzhou. In the 16th year of Chunxi in the Southern Song Dynasty (1189), it was Baxian County of Chongqing Prefecture.
In the Yuan Dynasty, Ming and Qing Dynasties, Baxian was still under the jurisdiction of the district.
In 1939, it was the eighth District of Chongqing. In 1941, Shiqiaopu was directly under the jurisdiction of the town and Baxian county. In 1942, Shiqiaopu was changed into the 17th District of Chongqing Municipality, with jurisdiction over Shiqiaopu, xietaizi, jiulongpu and hegaoyan.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, in October 1950, the eighth district and the seventeenth District merged into the Fourth District of Chongqing. Part of Jiulongpo still belongs to Ba County.
In October 1952, Chongqing adjusted its zoning, with four streets of Hualongqiao, Daping, xietaizi and Shiqiaopu, three townships of Shiqiao, Xietai and Huangni as the third district, two streets of huangshaxi and yiaici as the first district, and Renhe Town, Jiansheng Township, Pingdu Town, Nanquan Administration Bureau, Yudong Town and Dawo Township of Baxian County as the fourth district. In November 1952, Jiulongpo District was the Fourth District of Chongqing. In February 1953, Yudong Town, Dawo Township and Shiban Township were returned to Ba County.
In October 1955, the fourth district was named Jiulongpo District. On February 15, 1965, Jiugong temple, Xinshan village and Yuejin Village were designated as Dadukou District.
In March 1995, eight towns of Baishiyi, Hangu, Zouma, Jinfeng, taojia, bafu, Xipeng, Tongguanyi and Shiban Township in Baxian County, as well as Shiqiaopu street and Shiqiao Town in Shapingba District were included in Jiulongpo District; lijiatuo street, Tuqiao street, Nanquan town and Huaxi town in Jiulongpo District were included in Banan District; qiezixi street, Jiansheng town and Baqiao town were included in Jiulongpo District; Dayan village No.2 and No.3 were included in Jiulongpo District The four villager groups are assigned to Dadukou District; five streets, namely Yangjiaping, Xiejiawan, Shipingqiao, Huangjueping and Zhongliangshan, and two towns, namely Jiulong and Huayan, are retained.
In November 1997, Shiban township was removed and Shiban town was built.
In February 1998, Jiulongpo District entrusted Chongqing high tech Industrial Development Zone to manage Shiqiaopu street and Shiqiao Town.
In July 2001, Zhongliangshan street and Huayan Town co operated.
On August 13, 2004, Yuzhou road street was built in Shiqiao Town.
On August 1, 2010, Shiqiaopu street and Yuzhou road street were officially assigned to Jiulongpo District along with Chongqing high tech Industrial Development Zone.
On January 3, 2014, jieshiqiaopu street was added with Erlang street.
In August 2020, Chongqing Municipal People's Government approved the abolition of Jiulong Town and the establishment of Jiulong street. After the adjustment, Jiulongpo District has jurisdiction over 9 streets and 10 towns.

The Jinyun Mountain Range winds along the western border of Jiulongpo District, and the Zhongliang mountain range runs across the central part, dividing the whole district into two parts: the eastern part and the western part. The total terrain in the area inclines from north to south, and the elevation is generally 250-450 meters. The elevation of the highest point is 692.8m, the elevation of the lowest point is 169.25m, and the relative elevation difference is 523.55m. The area is the South extension of Huayingshan belt fold. Anticlines form mountains and synclines form valleys. Anticline structure generally forms middle and low mountains, with open terrain on both sides and mainly round middle and low hills. The low mountain area of anticline is 105.8 square kilometers, accounting for 24.56% of the total area; the hilly area of syncline is 303.2 square kilometers, accounting for 70.2% of the total area.
Climatic characteristics
Jiulongpo District is located in Sichuan Basin, with subtropical monsoon humid climate, rich in water and heat, rainy and hot in the same season, less sunshine and long frost free period. In early spring, it is cold in spring, hot in summer, rainy in autumn and foggy in winter. The annual average temperature is 16 ℃ - 18 ℃, and the frost free period is about 340 days.

After entering from the south side of Jiulongpo District, the Yangtze River turns eastward and leaves the country in the northeast direction, gathering the secondary rivers such as Taohua River, Motan River and Daxi River, while Liangtan river flows into Jialing River in the district.
