Hexi District is an ancient coastal area with low terrain. Most of the areas are about 4 meters above sea level, and low-lying areas are only about 3 meters. The ground slope is very gentle, with a slope of about 1 / 10000. It is mainly composed of low flat land, depression, micro highland, artificial dike and pond.
The ground is mainly composed of sandy clay and clay. Because the terrain is low and flat, the drainage is not smooth, the groundwater level is high, the shallow groundwater is salt water, and the soil salt content is high.

Hexi District belongs to the marine alluvial plain in the southeast of Tianjin. The geomorphology of Hexi area is formed on the basis of buried hill, due to the strong subsidence of Cenozoic geological structure, the transportation and accumulation of ocean, river and lake, and the human transformation.
