Historical evolution
Maoming City belongs to Nanhai County in Qin Dynasty. In the Western Han Dynasty, Gaoliang county was established, belonging to Gaoliang County of Hepu County.
In the Eastern Han Dynasty, Hepu County set up Gaoliang County, belonging to Gaoliang county. During the Three Kingdoms period, it belonged to Gaoliang County of Wu state.
In the Eastern Jin Dynasty, it belonged to Gaoliang county. From the Western Jin Dynasty to the Eastern Jin Dynasty, pan Maoming, a famous doctor, appeared in Gaoliang area at that time. In the northern and Southern Dynasties, Gaozhou was set up in the first year of Datong in the Liang Dynasty (529), Gaoliang County in Gaozhou and Nanba County in Gaozhou in the Chen Dynasty. In the Sui Dynasty, the three levels of prefectures and counties were changed to the two levels of prefectures and counties.

In the fifth year of Kaibao in the Northern Song Dynasty (972), panzhou was abolished, and Panshui and Nanba counties were merged into Maoming county. Now Maonan belongs to Maoming County, and then changed a little. In 1368, Gaozhou road was changed into Gaozhou Prefecture. In 1381, Gaozhou government led Maoming, Dianbai, Xinyi and Huazhou counties, Wuchuan and lianjiang.
In 1647, Gaozhou Prefecture belonged to gaolei Yangdao, with five counties including Linghua Prefecture, Maoming, Dianbai, Xinyi, Wuchuan and lianjiang. Gaozhou City was governed by Gaozhou Prefecture.
During the period of the Republic of China, Gaozhou capital was withdrawn.
