Longgang District, Longgang District, under the jurisdiction of Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, is located in the northeast of Shenzhen city. It was established on November 11, 1992. In January of 2003, Longgang belonged to Baoan county and Huiyang county respectively. From the founding of the people's Republic of China to October 1958, it followed the old system. In November 1958, Longgang, Pingshan, Dapeng and other places were under the jurisdiction of Baoan county.
In January 1979, Bao'an county was changed into Shenzhen City, and Longgang belonged to it.
Shenzhen Special Economic Zone was established in August 1980.
In December 1992, with the approval of the State Council, the organizational system of Bao'an county was abolished and Longgang District and Bao'an District were established under the jurisdiction of Shenzhen Municipality.
On January 1, 1993, Longgang District of Shenzhen city was established. The original 10 towns in the east of Bao'an County, including Buji, Pinghu, Henggang, Longgang, Pingdi, Pingshan, Kengzi, Kuichong, Dapeng and Nan'ao, were under the jurisdiction of Longgang District.
In December 1992, with the approval of the State Council, the organizational system of Bao'an county was abolished, and Longgang District and Bao'an District were established under the jurisdiction of Shenzhen Municipality. On January 1, 1993, Longgang District of Shenzhen Municipality was established.
In September 2016, the State Council approved the establishment of Pingshan district by Pingshan street and Kengzi street of Longgang District (Pingshan New Area).

From 2000 to 2002, Longgang District governed 10 towns (Longgang, Kengzi, Pingshan, Henggang, Buji, Kuichong, Dapeng, Nan'ao, Pinghu, Pingdi), 90 village committees and 23 neighborhood committees.
On November 26, 2003, Longgang District abolished Longgang Town and set up two sub district offices. The party working committees and offices of Longgang and Longcheng were officially established on January 1, 2004. The newly established Longgang sub district has a total area of 64.12 square kilometers, which governs seven village committees of Xinsheng, Shengping, Nanlian, Nanyue, Tongle, Longdong and Longgang, and two communities of Longgang and Pingnan. In 2006, Buji street was divided into three sub district offices: Buji, Bantian and Nanwan. The total area of the original Buji street is 84.12 square kilometers, and its resident population is 1 million 50 thousand, with a population of 118 thousand and 300 or more. The registered residence population is 34. On April 29, Buji, Bantian and Nanwan streets were officially established.
On May 31, 2010, the State Council officially decided to expand the territory of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone to Shenzhen. Longgang District and Bao'an District, including Guangming New District and Pingshan New District, were included in the territory of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.
