Shangyou County, located in the west of Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province, is adjacent to Nankang District in the East, Chongyi County in the south, Guidong County in Hunan Province in the West and Suichuan County in the north. It is known as the "hometown of hydropower, tea and ornamental stones". The county covers an area of 1543 square kilometers. By the end of 2019, Shangyou County has jurisdiction over 6 towns, 8 townships, 131 administrative villages and 9 communities, with a total population of 323800.
Shangyou County was built in 952, the tenth year of Baoda in the Southern Tang Dynasty. There are ancient cultural sites such as cliff inscriptions in the Western Jin Dynasty, Dongshan temple in the Song Dynasty, Wenxing Pagoda in the Ming Dynasty, Denglong pagoda and so on. It is the hometown of Xianyang Xiaoben in southern Jiangxi. The terrain inclines from northwest to Southeast, with mountains in the East, north, West and southwest, hills and valleys in the southeast. It belongs to subtropical monsoon humid climate zone, with mild climate, abundant rainfall and sunshine Abundant, four distinct seasons, long frost free period. Shangyou is rich in tourism resources. History of construction
In the 26th year of the first emperor of Qin Dynasty (221 BC), the county system was established. Shangyou County is located in Nanye County, belonging to Jiujiang county.
In the fourth year of emperor Gaozu of Han Dynasty (203 BC), Jiujiang county was changed into Huainan County; in the sixth year of emperor Gaozu (201 BC), Yuzhang county was divided into Huainan County; in the second year of Xingping (195), Luling county was divided into Yuzhang County, and Shangye County was still under Luling county.
Wu Jiahe five years (236 years) divided Luling County into southern Duwei, Nanye County into Nan'an County, Shangyou as southern Duwei, Nan'an county.
In the first year of Taikang (280), Nanan county was changed into Nankang County; in the third year of Taikang (282), Nankang county was established by abolishing the southern Duwei, and the upper part of Nankang county still belonged to Nankang county.
In the first year of Yongchu of Song Dynasty (420), Nankang county was changed to Nankang state, and Shangkang County belonged to Nankang state; in the first year of Jianyuan of Qi Dynasty (479), Nankang county was changed to Nankang County; in the eighth year of Yongming Dynasty (490), Nankang county was changed to Nankang state; in the first year of Tianjian of Liang Dynasty (502), Nankang county was changed to Nankang County; in the first year of Yongding of Chen Dynasty (557), Nankang county was changed to Gan County, and Shangkang County belonged to Ganxian county.
In the ninth year of kaihuang (589), Nankang county was abolished and Qianzhou, the general manager of Hongzhou, was set up. Shangyou still belonged to Ganxian county. In the first year of Daye (605), Nankang county was restored and Ganxian county was renamed Nankang county. Shangyou still belonged to Nankang county.
In the first year of Zhenguan of Tang Dynasty (627), jiangnandao was set up, and Shangyou was the land of Nankang County in Jiangnan Daoqian Prefecture; in the second year of zhaozongtianyou (905), Lu Guanghou, a native of the city, proposed the construction of shangyouchang.
In the first year of Qianhua in the Later Liang Dynasty (911), shangyouchang was set up in the southwest of Nankang County; in the tenth year of Baoda in Nankang county (952 AD), Changzhi was changed to a county and its name was still used.
In 976, Shangyou County belonged to Qianzhou, Jiangxi Province; in 990, the Nan'an army was set up in Dayu, which belonged to Shangyou County; in 1212, Shangyou County was changed to Nan'an county.
In 1277, Nan'an army was changed into Nan'an road general manager's office, which governed Dayu, Nankang and Nan'an; in 1279, Nan'an county was changed into Yongqing County; in 1280, Shangyou County was renamed as Nan'an road general manager's office.
In the first year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (1368), Nan'an road was changed into Nan'an Prefecture, which was still under the jurisdiction of Jiangxi Zhongshu province.
The Qing Dynasty inherited the Ming system, Shangyou still lived in Nan'an Prefecture, under the Jiangxi buzhengshi department.
In the winter of the first year of the Republic of China (1912), Shangyou County was directly under the Jiangxi provincial government; in the third year of the Republic of China (1914), Jiangxi was divided into four roads and 81 counties, and Shangyou belonged to Gannan road; in the 15th year of the Republic of China (1926), Shangyou County was directly under the provincial government; in the 20th year of the Republic of China (1931), Shangyou County was under the Nanchang camp party and government committee of the land, sea and air force command; in the 21st year of the Republic of China (1932), Jiangxi In 1935, Jiangxi Province was divided into eight administrative regions, and Shangyou County was subordinate to the fourth administrative region.

In March 1955, Shangyou County People's government was changed into Shangyou County People's Committee.

In April 1968, the people's Committee of Shangyou County was changed into the Revolutionary Committee of Shangyou County, belonging to the Ganzhou regional Revolutionary Committee.
In December 1980, it was changed into Shangyou County People's government, which belongs to Ganzhou administrative office.
In July 1999, Ganzhou Prefecture was abolished and Ganzhou City was established. Shangyou County was subordinate to Ganzhou Municipal People's government.

There are Intermountain basins of different sizes between hills or mountains, most of which are Shaanxi long belt with low and flat terrain. Yingqian basin, Shuiyan basin, Shexi basin, Youshi basin, Dongshan basin and Huangbu basin are the largest. There are rivers running through the basin with gentle slopes and wide valleys. It is formed by the accumulation of New Quaternary sediments. It is an area with fertile land, concentrated farmland, dense population and relatively developed farming in the county.

The types of rocks in Shangyou County are different due to different landforms. There are mainly acid crystalline rocks, argillaceous rocks, river alluvium and Quaternary red clay. The main distribution is as follows:
Acid crystalline rocks: mainly granite and granite porphyry. From the middle part of Luoxiao mountain in the northwest, it extends to the southeast and southwest in two branches, mainly distributed in wuzhifeng, Yingqian, Shuiyan, Ziyang, Meishui, Shexi, Dongshan and other towns in the middle and low mountains. The weathering material is coarse in grain and contains more quartz sand and gravel, forming acid crystalline rock red soil, gneiss soil and Masha mud field.
Argillaceous rocks: mainly slate, shale and mudstone. It is mainly distributed in low mountains, middle hills and southern areas. Sixia, Anhe, Dongshan, Huangbu and other towns cover a large area. The weathering material is fine and argillaceous, and the soil formed is argillaceous rock red soil and eel mud field.
Purple sand shale: Purple glutenite, purple sandstone, purple shale and purple mudstone. It is mainly distributed in low hilly areas, with more in Youshi and Shexi, and a few in Meishui. The formed soil is Purple Sandy Soil and purple soil, which is rich in calcium, potassium, phosphorus and other mineral nutrients. It is a good parent material for soil formation in the county.
River alluvium: mainly distributed in the river terraces on both sides of Shangyoujiang River, sixiahe River, Ziyang River and Yingqian river. The soil formed is tidal sand mud and tidal sand mud field.
Quaternary Red Clay: distributed in low hills and hills. It is formed by the influence of long humid and hot climate. It is generally covered by purple glutenite, purple sand shale and purple sandstone.
