The strata in Xingbin district are almost sedimentary rocks, among which the Carboniferous is the most widely distributed, and the Middle Devonian is the oldest exposed strata. There are seven systems, including Devonian, Carboniferous, Permian, Triassic, Cretaceous, tertiary and Quaternary.
There are middle and upper series in Xingbin district. Middle series: only the upper part of Donggangling formation is exposed, distributed in Hongjiang and Shenshan of Mengcun and Sanlian of Xiaopingyang. The lithology is dark gray limestone and argillaceous limestone mudstone. There are some fossils such as bohadingbei, halberda and otope. Upper series: it is divided into two facies areas according to lithologic characteristics. It is distributed in the area from the southeast of Gao'an to the north of Liuli of Sishan, which is a siliceous and lenticular limestone facies area. The lower part of the siliceous rock, siliceous shale, the production of bamboo fossils, known as the Liujiang formation. The upper lenticular limestone intercalated with siliceous rock and ferruginous limestone is called Wuzhishan formation, which is distributed in the limestone facies area to the south of Sishan. The strata of the two groups are the products of different facies in the same period. There is a transitional relationship between the two systems.
The Carboniferous system is distributed in every township (town) of Xingbin District, and the upper, middle and lower series are exposed. There is continuous deposition between the three series and conformity contact with the underlying Devonian. Upper series: it can be divided into two lithologic areas.
