University of science and technology of China (USTC) is a comprehensive national key university under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which focuses on cutting-edge science and high-tech, with both characteristic management and humanities.
Founded in Beijing in September 1958, the first president was Guo Moruo. Its establishment is known as "a major event in the history of education and Science in China". Since its establishment, CAS has implemented the school running policy of "running the whole academy and combining departments". The university has set up departments and specialties closely around the emerging science and technology fields urgently needed by the country, creatively combined science and engineering, that is, frontier science and high-tech, paid attention to basic course teaching, and cultivated cutting-edge science and technology talents of emerging, marginal and interdisciplinary disciplines from a high starting point and wide caliber, bringing together strict discipline Some of the most prestigious scientists in China, such as Ci, Hua Luogeng, Qian Xuesen, Zhao Zhongyao, Guo yonghuai, Zhao Jiuzhang and Bei Shizhang, have developed rapidly. In the second year after its establishment, it was listed as a national key university.
In early 1970, the school moved to Hefei City, Anhui Province, and started its second business. After 1978, the school was determined to reform and innovate boldly. It took the lead in putting forward and implementing a series of educational reform measures with innovative spirit and forward-looking consciousness, such as the establishment of juvenile class, the first construction of graduate school, the construction of national science project, and opening up to the world, which have been rapidly restored and developed. During the period of the seventh and eighth five year plan, it has been the key construction of the state, and soon developed into an important base for national high-quality personnel training and high-level scientific research.
Since the 1990s, the university has actively adapted to the requirements and challenges of the development of science and technology, education and social economy at home and abroad, conscientiously implemented the outline of China's education reform and development, vigorously promoted the reform of teaching and scientific research and structural adjustment, and carried out the third venture. The university is one of the first batch of universities to implement the "985 Project" and "211 Project", and also the only university to participate in the national knowledge innovation project.
For a long time, the school has vigorously carried forward the school spirit of "red college and college go hand in hand, theory and practice blend", adhered to the concept of "I innovate, so I am" and excellent school running, talent education, formed a fine tradition of continuous development and innovation, as well as the distinctive characteristics of the combination of teaching and scientific research, theory and practice, and cultivated a number of high-level talents with both political integrity and ability. Facing the world's leading scientific fields and major national needs, the university has refined its scientific objectives, carried out scientific research, made great efforts to improve its academic research level, scientific research innovation ability and scientific research competitiveness, and achieved a number of original scientific and technological achievements with the world's leading level.
The university has 11 colleges, 25 departments, Graduate School, software school, continuing education school, network education school, etc., and has research institutes in Shanghai and Suzhou respectively. There are six national talent training bases for basic science research and teaching in mathematics, physics, mechanics, astronomy, bioscience and chemistry, one national talent training base for life science and technology, eight first-class national key disciplines, four second-class national key disciplines, two national key training disciplines, one A-class key discipline in Anhui Province and 19 B-class key disciplines in Anhui Province Section. There are 33 national, provincial and ministerial key scientific research institutions, including National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory, Hefei National Laboratory of micro scale material science (Preparatory), State Key Laboratory of fire science, National High Performance Computing Center (Hefei), Mengcheng National Geophysical field observation and research station.
At present, there are 1163 full-time teachers and 360 scientific research personnel. There are 28 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of engineering, 6 academicians of the Third World Academy of Sciences, 332 doctoral supervisors, 440 professors (including equivalent professional and technical personnel), 616 associate professors (including equivalent professional and technical personnel), and a number of world-famous scientists, such as Yang Zhenning, Li Zhengdao, Ding Zhaozhong, Qiu Chengtong, r.f. curl, Eugene Garfield Charles, etc., are also employed Professor Yu, honorary doctor and visiting professor.
There are more than 15000 students, including more than 2400 doctoral students, more than 5800 master students and more than 7400 undergraduate students. The source of undergraduate students and the quality of training have always been among the best in Colleges and universities in China.
The campus has a total area of about 1.45 million square meters and a building area of 920000 square meters. It has advanced teaching and scientific research equipment with a total asset value of 790 million yuan, and a library collection of 1.835 million books. It has built a first-class campus computer network in China, and has initially built a number of public experimental centers for scientific research and teaching.
