Pingxiang university is a full-time public undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of education and facing the national enrollment. Pingxiang is located in the west of Jiangxi Province, adjacent to Changsha, 120 kilometers away from Huanghua International Airport. There are Shanghai Kunming high-speed railway, Zhejiang Jiangxi railway running through the East and West, 319 and 320 national highways crossing through, G60, S89 and other expressways running through the whole territory. It is a place where people and culture gather and learning is popular. Since ancient times, it has enjoyed the reputation of "hometown of reading and nation of education". It is especially famous for Anyuan, the birthplace of modern Chinese industry and labor movement. Since the reform and opening up, the former Jiangnan coal capital and the Pearl of western Jiangxi have taken on a new look through urban transformation. Industrial ceramics, mining machinery, new materials and other pillar industries are booming, economic and social prosperity and progress, "culture prospers the city" is a grand sight.

The school's predecessor was the provincial Pingxiang simple normal school founded in 1941. In 1949, it was renamed Pingxiang normal school. In 1978, it started junior college classes. In 1982, it established Pingxiang Institute of education. In 1993, it was renamed Pingxiang College. In 2013, it passed the evaluation of the Ministry of education and was upgraded to Pingxiang College. In the course of more than 70 years of school running, the school adheres to the school motto of "morality is the best, learning is the best", adheres to the concept of "moral education, the pursuit of excellence, pragmatic innovation, scientific development", and cultivates a large number of high-quality talents for the country. The school now covers an area of 1200 mu, with a construction area of nearly 300000 square meters. There are 132 teaching experiment (Lab) centers, more than 200 internal (external) practice (training) bases, more than 60 million yuan of teaching and scientific research equipment, 1.1 million paper books and 250000 e-books in the library. New engineering training center, material technology training center, concert hall, art building, student apartment, Ruoshui reading square, academic exchange center, gymnasium and training center, administration and scientific research center, etc. have been built, providing an ideal learning and living place for students to become talents and further study. In the past five years, the university has won outstanding achievements in the evaluation of provincial talent training, Party building, teaching, teaching laboratory, library, ideological and political education, teacher training, enrollment and employment, and student management. More than 300 projects have been approved by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Social Science Foundation of China, the national science and technology innovation fund for small and medium-sized enterprises, the national education science planning project, the National Key Laboratory Open Fund project, and the provincial and ministerial scientific research projects. In the past five years, 1500 academic papers have been published in various academic journals, including 327 papers in core journals, and more than 100 papers have been included in the three major international retrieval systems. It has published 150 monographs and teaching materials and 178 awards for teaching and scientific research achievements at or above the provincial level. Teachers have been awarded the teaching achievement award and social science research achievement award of Jiangxi Province. The students have repeatedly won the National College Students' mathematical modeling contest, "CCTV Cup" National English speech contest, National College Students' literature and art (calligraphy) performance, Jiangxi Provincial computer contest, Jiangxi Provincial web design contest, Jiangxi College Students' literature and art singing contest, Jiangxi Provincial Games and other important competitions. The University attaches great importance to practical teaching, relying on large and medium-sized enterprises and institutions to carry out off campus practice (practical training), which has enhanced students' practical ability and innovation and entrepreneurship. Graduates are welcomed by all sectors of the society, with a one-time employment rate of more than 90%. They have been rated as advanced units in Jiangxi Province for many years.

At present, the school has 64 undergraduate and junior college majors, which recruit students nationwide. Among the specialties, there are 6 provincial characteristic specialties and 7 provincial demonstration specialties. In the construction of various specialties, there are 2 provincial talent training mode innovation experimental zones, 3 provincial teaching teams, 13 provincial excellent (high-quality) courses, 11 provincial excellent resource sharing courses, and 2 projects supported by the Ministry of education and the Ministry of finance to improve the development ability of professional service industry in Higher Vocational schools. In 2015, the University was listed as the first batch of transformation and development pilot colleges in Jiangxi Province. At present, there are 12633 full-time students. There are nearly 600 full-time teachers, of which about 40% have the title of deputy senior or above, and about 70% have the master's or doctor's degree. 5-7 foreign experts are employed throughout the year. Among the teachers, more than 50 are entitled to special subsidies from the State Council and Jiangxi provincial government, provincial discipline leaders, national and provincial Talents Project candidates, provincial famous teachers, provincial young and middle-aged backbone teachers, etc. After more than 70 years, the university has delivered nearly 100000 graduates to the society. Most of them have become the backbone of enterprises and institutions. There are also many celebrities, business tycoons or political elites at home and abroad who have made contributions to the society in their respective jobs. Among them, Liu Tianquan, the first graduate of the University, is the first academician of the Chinese Academy of engineering and the second prize winner of the national science and technology progress award.
