Yangjiang, a prefecture level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province, is a metropolitan city on the West Bank of the Pearl River Estuary. It is located in the western coast of Guangdong Province, close to the Pearl River Delta, and the key point of western Guangdong. It has jurisdiction over Jiangcheng District, Yangdong District, Yangxi county and Yangchun City. It has set up Hailing Island Economic Development Experimental Zone and Yangjiang high tech Industrial Development Zone. The total area is 7955.9 square kilometers.
Yangjiang is an important birthplace and inheritance place of "Gaoliang culture". It used to be the seat of Gaoliang County in Han Dynasty, Jin Dynasty, southern and Northern Dynasties, the shogunate of Madam Xian in Sui Dynasty, and an important transit station and supply station of the maritime Silk Road. Yangjiang has both mountain and sea advantages and beautiful scenery. Historical evolution
According to the archaeological findings of dushizi cave site in Yangchun (the ancient human cave site from the late Paleolithic to the early Neolithic), human beings lived and multiplied in Liangyang area ten thousand years ago. In the pre Qin period, it was the tribute of Yu to Yangzhou, and the Liangyang area was the place where Baiyue lived, which did not belong to the Central Plains.

In the 33rd year of the first emperor of Qin Dynasty (214 BC), Nanhai county was established after the first emperor of Qin Dynasty pacified Baiyue, and Liangyang area was Nanhai county.
In the sixth year of Yuanding (111 BC) of Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty, Gaoliang county was established in Hepu County, and Liangyang area was Gaoliang county. In the 25th year of Jian'an (220 AD), Wu Guoxi established Gaoliang County in Hepu County. Gaoliang county was in charge of Anning county and Siping county. Both Gaoliang county and Anning county were in the original Yangjiang County, which was the beginning of the original Yangjiang county.
In the first year of Wu chiwu (238 A.D.) in the Three Kingdoms period, Moyang county was established as a happy county, which was the beginning of the original Yangchun county.
In the period of Wei, Jin and southern and Northern Dynasties, Yangchun county was set up in the fourth year of Liang Dynasty (523 AD), which was the beginning of Yangchun county. In the first year of Liang Datong (A.D. 527), Gaozhou was set up, with Gaoliang County, duling County, songkang County under its jurisdiction, and Anning county was changed into Gaoliang county. Gaozhou Prefecture, Gaoliang county and Gaoliang county are all located in today's Jiangcheng. Gaozhou governs most of today's Yangjiang City, Enping City and Maoming City.
In 598 ad, a new Yangjiang county was established in Yangjiang, which is the beginning of Yangjiang county's name.
In 621 ad, chunzhou was set up in Wude of Tang Dynasty. It was governed by Yangchun City and led by Yangchun county and Liunan county. Taizong Zhenguan (23ad 649) abolished Gaozhou Dudu Fu and set up enzhou. The Prefecture was governed by Yangjiang, which was under the jurisdiction of Guangzhou Dudu Fu.
In 1048, beizhou in Hebei Province was changed to enzhou, and the former enzhou was changed to nanenzhou, and its governance was in Yangjiang. Xining six years (AD 1073) waste spring state, Tongling County into Yangchun County, Yangchun county is nan'en state.
In 1276, the emperor Shizu of the Yuan Dynasty set up nan'en road general manager's office. In 1282, it was reduced to Sanzhou. Both the state and the government were in Yangjiang.
In the first year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (1368 AD), enzhou was removed, and Yangjiang county and Yangchun county were under the jurisdiction of Zhaoqing Prefecture.
In 1867, Yangjiang county was changed into Zhili Prefecture, leading Yangchun County, Kaiping county and Enping county. In 1870, Zhili Prefecture of Yangjiang was changed into Zhili hall, and Yangchun County, Kaiping county and Enping county were under the control of Zhaoqing Prefecture. Guangxu 32 years (AD 1906) Yangjiang Zhili hall changed to Zhili Prefecture, leading Yangchun County, Enping county.
In the first year of the Republic of China (1912 AD), the state capital was removed and Yangjiang county and Yangchun county were established.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Yangjiang and Yangchun belong to Jiangmen Guangdong technical secondary school. In 1953, it was transferred to western Guangdong administrative office. In 1956, it was changed to Zhanjiang district. In the winter of 1958, heyangjiang county and Yangchun County became Liangyang county. In 1961, it was divided into Yangjiang county and Yangchun county. In September 1983, Yangjiang county and Yangchun were counties of Jiangmen City.
On January 7, 1988, the State Council approved the separation of Yangjiang and Yangchun counties from Jiangmen City and the establishment of Yangjiang City as a prefecture level city.
On October 20, 2014, Yangdong county was abolished and Yangdong District of Yangjiang City was established.

Yangjiang is located in the southwest coast of Guangdong Province. Its geographical location is between 21 ° 28'45 "n to 22 ° 41'02" n and 111 ° 16'35 "e to 112 ° 21'51" e. it is 112.5 km long from east to west and 132.75 km from north to south. The land area is 7955.9 square kilometers, of which 25.6% is hilly area, 42.0% is mountainous area and 21.8% is plain area. It borders on Enping City and Taishan City of Jiangmen in the East, Luoding city of Yunfu, Xinxing County and Xinyi City of Maoming in the north, Gaozhou City and Dianbai District of Maoming in the west, and Nanhai in the south. The total length of coastline is 458.6 km, including 323.5 km of mainland coastline, 135.1 km of island coastline, and 40 major islands (more than 500 square meters).

Yangjiang City is surrounded by mountains in the East, West and North, and South China Sea in the south. Tongmushan, langtouling and ziluoshan in the East are distributed from northeast to southwest. The landform is mainly low mountains and hills, with weathered crust and bedrock platform distributed in the front of low mountains and hills, followed by alluvial plain and coastal plain of Moyang river. There are limestone karst landforms in Yangchun, which are distributed in the plain of Yangchun basin. The plains below 100 meters above sea level are mainly distributed along the middle and lower reaches of the Moyang River, such as peimian, Chuncheng, Mashui, Gangmei, Shuangjie, Baisha, Chengxi, Ganglie, Buchang, Heshan, beitu, yashao and so on. The hills with an altitude of 100-500m are mainly distributed along national highway 325 through Beigu, Heshan, Baisha, Chengcun, Zhijia, Rudong, etc. In Yangchun, hills and platforms alternate along the middle reaches of Moyang River and Tanshui River. Most of the mountains above 500 meters above sea level are granite formed by the third Yanshanian magmatic intrusion, and some of them are limestone in Yangchun.

In 2019, the annual average temperature is 23.9 degrees Celsius, the annual rainfall is generally 3056 mm, the rainfall distribution is uneven, there are many storms in summer and autumn, and the annual frost free period is 365 days.

Yangjiang City is densely covered with rivers and abundant water. There are 24 rivers with rainfall collection area of more than 100 square kilometers, most of which originate in the northern mountainous area. The upstream river bed is steep, the natural drop is large, and the flood rises and falls suddenly. It is often caused by mountain torrents, and the middle and lower river beds are flat and easy to deposit. It is a flood prone area. The reserve of water resources is 676000 kW, and 285000 kW can be developed and utilized in the near future. Moyang river is the largest river in the territory, running through Yangchun, Yangdong and Jiangcheng counties (cities and districts), flowing into the South China Sea from north to south. The main tidal type in Yangjiang City is irregular semidiurnal tide.
On July 5, 2019, the Ministry of ecological environment of the people's Republic of China announced the special investigation of black and odorous water bodies in the first stage of overall planning and strengthening supervision in 2019. Yangjiang was listed in the "list of cities with less than 80% black and odorous water elimination proportion", and the elimination proportion was 23.1%.
