Deciduous trees, up to 20 meters high. The bark is yellowish brown with gray spots and wrinkles. It splits longitudinally when it grows old. Flowers unisexual, monoecious; male flowers in corymbs, in axils of basal new branches; female flowers solitary, in axils of upper new branches, pedunculate; perianth 5-lobed, persistent; stamens with the same number of branches; ovary hairy, 1-locular, stigma 2. Drupe subglobose or ovoid, 8-10 mm long, hirsute; stipe short. The flowering period is from April to May. The fruit period is from August to October.
