Perennial herbs, 30-50 cm high. Culms tufted, erect or base slightly inclined, base compressed. Leaf blade linear, 10-25 cm long, 3-5 mm wide, often involute, apex long acuminate; leaf sheath flat, sheath mouth with white pilose; ligule truncated. Panicle developed, 15-18 cm long, branches nearly whorled or solitary, more tortuous; spikelet petiole thin and weak, spikelets black, florets 3-8; glumes lanceolate, apex acuminate, veined; lemma ovate oblong, loosely arranged, palea slightly shorter than lemma, often persistent, apex truncated; anthers yellow. The flowering and fruiting period is from April to September.
It grows on hillside grassland. Distributed in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Gansu and other places.
