Herbs perennial, glabrous, 40-80 cm high. The rhizome is short, the fibrous roots are tufted, and the skin is brown and villous. The stem has an edge. The basal leaves are 2-3-4-3-compound, with sheath like stipules at the base, embracing the stem; the leaflets are oval oblong, broadly ovate or nearly circular, 3-lobed, with round teeth, the apex blunt, the base round, sometimes shallowly cordate, 3-7 cm long and 2-5 cm wide; the stem leaves are usually 2-back-3-emerging, the leaflets are mostly narrow and long, rhombic elliptic, and the base cuneate. Inflorescence: panicle; bracts linear, bracteoles conic; sepals 4, obovate, white or pink; stamens numerous, filaments oblanceolate, anthers oblong, apex without spikelets; pistils 8-12. Achene fusiform, sessile, dark brown, longitudinally ribbed 8, persistent style curved. The flowering period is from May to June.
It is found in moist valleys, rocks or grass. It is distributed in Sichuan.
Cold in nature, bitter and astringent in taste, non-toxic.
