Trees, up to 40 meters high. The bark is grayish brown with large gray spots and rough. Branchlets oblong, yellowish brown. It has double pinnate compound leaves, short petiole, thin total petiole, 2-4 pairs of leaflets, apex slightly concave or obtuse, base ovoid, entire margin, papery, dark green above, gray green below, 7-8 cm long, 5-6 cm wide, lateral veins arc, sparsely reticulate veins. Raceme arranged in terminal panicle, flowers on the order axis inclined to one side; calyx tubular, 4-lobed, lobes oblong; petals only 1 developed, the rest degenerated, lavender; stamen 7, prominent, apex slightly curved, 4 with medicine, 3 degenerated, medicine brown; pistil 1, slightly longer than stamen, ovary superior; 1-locular. The pods are woody, oblong, 10-12 cm long, 6-7 cm wide and 4 cm thick, slightly constricted in the middle, brown and smooth, densely covered with yellow spots, especially on the edge, with many small protuberances. Seeds usually 2-3, oblate, horny aril petiole. The flowering period is May. The fruiting period is August.
It is cultivated in Guangdong, Yunnan and other places.
