In the ancient Yixian County, there are only a few streets and alleys in the name of "street", and West Street is one of them.

West Street, as the name suggests, is named after its location. It is located in the west corner of Yicheng. Hedong street is a pair of twin brothers. The two streets take the North Street as the symmetry axis and extend to the West and East respectively.

When was the name of West Street. In the past, the West Street was not long, about 300 meters long. It was paved with a long cross road. It is said that the end of the West Street is the west gate of the old county. On the south side of the West Street are a series of dwellings, where most of the big surnames Yu live; on the north side, they are empty. There are no shops, no traffic, it seems a little quiet and cool.

On the south side of the West Street, there is an alley called mingxianli. In order to find out the origin of this name, I specially visited several elderly people, but failed to get a convincing explanation. Looking up the relevant written materials, I found that there were many famous people from the countryside in history. In the directory of Hui merchants in Yi County, there are many famous business celebrities, such as Yu Shien, Yu Zhiguang, Yu Shixiong, Yu fajie, Yu Zhaoji, Yu Shoushan and Yu Zengxiang. In particular, Yu Jieshi, a famous scholar and professor of mathematics, is worth mentioning.

Street protection

Yixian County West Street "three small" reconstruction project has been fully started, the project is one of the key construction projects arranged by the local county Party committee and county government in 2009, is also a livelihood project. After the completion of the whole project through public bidding, it focuses on the pavement stone slab laying, "three lines and two pipes" (power supply line, cable TV line, telephone line, water supply and drainage pipe network) buried in the ground, rain and sewage diversion system and lighting, fire control, environmental sanitation and other supporting facilities. The length of reconstruction is 140 meters, and the whole construction period is about one month.

Historical Site

The cold and remote West Street, quietly reading the vicissitudes of life, witnessed the rise and fall of history and social development. In the late feudal society, the main hall of the county yamen stood just a few steps to the south of the West Street. The solemn and mysterious atmosphere of the buildings that symbolized the feudal imperial power has been washed away in the long river of time. With the collapse of the feudal system, the authority and glory of this building has become history. Originally, it was a place for feudal county officials to enjoy themselves. It was listed as a key cultural relic protection unit at the county level and became a textbook for later generations to understand the evils and darkness of the old system. Nowadays, the main hall of Yamen is in vain, and the West Street adjacent to it is no longer cold and remote.

Yu Jieshi (1901-1968), the word Weici, also known as Zhuping, West Street, known as Xianli people. He loved mathematics in his childhood and studied in Nanjing Normal University in his early years. After graduation, he has been engaged in teaching in Colleges and universities, rigorous scholarship, training a large number of talents for our country's mathematics. He has compiled and translated many works, mainly including algebra for senior high school, plane geometry for senior high school and solid geometry for senior high school. In his later years, he was engaged in the research of abacus, and his books, such as "quick algorithm of abacus" and "simple algorithm of abacus", were recognized as the authority of modern abacus. In March 1954, he discovered the abacus model in the Qingming River map collected by the Palace Museum, which pushed the history of abacus use in China to the Song Dynasty. These forefathers, who were either successful in business or good at learning, came out of mingxianli. Perhaps their appearance has already explained the name of mingxianli most powerfully.
