social undertakings
In paifangwan village, Xishan street, Shunqing District, a newly unearthed stone statue was placed on the slope of a vegetable field. The stone statue has a base, which is 1.08 meters high, 78 cm wide and weighs about 650 kg. The stone statue is in a sitting position, covered with fish scale armor, and decorated with red and green paintings. Beside the stone statue is a sitting animal, which looks like a dog or a cat. However, the stone figure has lost its head and right hand.
After receiving the report, Zhang Liang, director of Shunqing District Cultural Center, led the staff to the scene. Zhang Liang and others carefully inspected the scene and asked local villagers to dig nearby, but they did not find the head of the human figure.
Zhang Liang told reporters that this is the most peculiar stone statue found in the area under his jurisdiction. According to the color and clothing of the stone statue, it should be a cultural relic of the Qing Dynasty, a bit like a Buddha statue. Subsequently, the staff of Shunqing District Cultural Center transported the stone statue away, and said that they would ask the relevant experts of the Municipal Cultural Management Institute to make further textual research and dating.
It is understood that Zhang Yousheng, a villager of paifangwan village, and his wife Yang Caixia discovered the statue in their work and reported it to the police on their own initiative. For this reason, Shunqing District Cultural Center has given some rewards to the old couple.
During the interview, local villagers told reporters that there was a large temple near paifangwan village before the founding of new China. Not far away was the original Sleeping Buddha Temple, now renamed Huixian temple. Huixian bridge at the foot of the mountain was the only way from Nanchong to Chengdu in ancient times. There were also air raid shelters left during the Anti Japanese War nearby.
