Zhenhu Township

Zhenhu Township, formerly known as Subao Township, is located in the southwest of Xiji County, Guyuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, adjacent to Gansu Province in the West. It covers an area of 152.23 square kilometers. The total population was 14158 (2017).

Xiji County governs the township. It has jurisdiction over 17 administrative villages. The township government is located in Su Bao Village, 32 kilometers away from the county. Located in Zuli River and Lanni River Basin, it is a typical loess hilly and gully region. It has the most natural barrier lakes in the county. Dangjiacha Zhenhu is an autonomous Wetland Nature Reserve and a typical national earthquake site.

The township originally belonged to Haiyuan County, Longde County and Jingning County. In 1942, it was divided into Xiji County and set up Mengxuan township. In 1966, it was changed into a commune; in 1982, it was changed into a Su Bao commune; in 1983, it was changed into a township. In 1996, it covers an area of 153.4 square kilometers and has a population of 23000. It governs 17 administrative villages, including Longchuan, chencha, Heping, Mengwan, Subao, Maoping, dangjiacha, Hetan, zhangjiadacha, zhangpai, Limei, hongzhuangzi, dongcha, Mengji, lizhang, Wangping and Baoyu. In 2000, there were 20551 permanent residents (Wupu). In October 2003, Su Bao township was officially renamed Zhenhu township.
