The history of Huaiyuan County can be traced back to the Tang and Yu dynasties in the primitive society, with the Tushan kingdom.
The Xia and Shang Dynasties were divided into Kyushu and Huaiyuan belonged to Xuzhou.
In the Western Zhou Dynasty, Xuzhou was merged into Qingzhou, which belonged to Qingzhou and Yangzhou respectively.
During the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, it belonged to Wu and Chu successively.
In the Qin Dynasty, Qin unified China and implemented the county system, with huaishui as the boundary, Huaibei as Sishui county and Huainan as Jiujiang county.
In the Western Han Dynasty, huaishui was still the boundary. There were four Marquis States and two counties. In the south of huaishui, there are Dangtu and Quyang, which belong to Jiujiang County; in the north of huaishui, there are pinga and Yicheng, and Longkang and Xiangxian, which belong to Pei county. In the new dynasty of Wang Mang, Dangtu was renamed Shanju, Quyang yanpingting, and pinga pingning. In the Eastern Han Dynasty, Dangtu state was changed into a county, Pei County into Pei state. The original county was not changed, but pinga and Yicheng counties were changed into Jiujiang county.
During the Three Kingdoms period, it belonged to Wei territory, Longkang County belonged to Ruyin County, and Yicheng County, pinga county and Quyang County belonged to Huainan county. In 1932, the Baojia system was implemented. There were 10 districts in the county, 809 Baojia and 8274 Baojia.
