Historical evolution
Before the Qing Dynasty
During the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317-420), there were only a few small sandbanks in Yangzhong area. In the Sui and Tang Dynasties (581-907), several small sandbanks formed a long sandbank. In Song Dynasty (960-1279), it was called Xiaosha.
In the second year of Jianyan (1128), Emperor Gaozong of the Song Dynasty, the Yellow River moved southward. In the eighth year of Hongzhi (1495), Emperor Xiaozong of the Ming Dynasty, the Yellow River, Huaihe River and Yangtze River confluenced, and sanjiangyingkou, Jiangdu District, Yangzhou city was the place where Huaihe river flowed into the Yangtze River
At the end of the Yangtze River, due to the surge of river water, the amount of sediment increased sharply. The old sandbank under it collapsed and the sediment moved down, which made the riverbed of the Yangtze River silted up rapidly and the new sandbank rose abruptly, accelerating the process of land formation in Yangzhong.
The Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) had the name of Xinzhou. Yao Xiang's "taipingzhou history · territory annals" said: "there was a rise of Ming Dynasty, when the real people rose, the coastal defense was brief, Zhongshan (Xuda) was in the front, and Ma du (Magui) was in the back.". In the middle of Yangzhong, it was the fiefdom of Xu Da, and the descendants of Xu family fought for land with the people. There was a case of Wang Fuxing Suiyu. On the island, the house of Xu's village was renamed "Daxing Temple", and Shazhou was called "Ximin island".
The Qing Dynasty
In the Qing Dynasty, sandbanks were gradually connected. In the fifth year of Xianfeng (1855), the Yellow River returned to the north and the Huaihe river went down to the south. The sandbanks were relatively stable and Xinzhou continued to rise. During the Tongzhi period (1862-1874), the central sandbanks and leigongzui successively came out of the water. At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, the newly rising ship sand came out of the water, and the rudiment of Yangzhong land was formed.
