Tianshan District Tianshan District is one of the downtown areas of Urumqi. It is also the headquarters of the party, the government, the army and the Xinjiang production and Construction Corps of the autonomous region. The total area of Tianshan District is 223 square kilometers, and the built-up area is 65.46 square kilometers. There are 44 ethnic groups including Han, Uygur and Hui living in the area, with a real population of 695300, including 464300 permanent residents and 231000 floating population. There are 22 district management committees, 194 communities, one administrative village, one pasture and one cattle farm under the jurisdiction of the region. There are 968 grassroots party organizations and 1080 administrative institutions at or above the section level.

Tianshan District is the southeast gate of Urumqi. It is connected with Lianhuo expressway, national highway 314, provincial highway 316 and 103. It is the gateway from southern Xinjiang and inland cities to Urumqi. Tianshan District is located in the upper air outlet of the city, with three water sources (Ganhezi water source, Hongyanchi reservoir, Wulapo reservoir), water park, Jinquan Park, Yan'an Park and other high-quality ecological resources.

Evolution of organizational system

Tianshan District is the former site of Dihua City, Xinmancheng city and Chengxiang in Qing Dynasty, which is also the jurisdiction of the first, second, third, fourth and fifth districts of Urumqi in the early days of liberation.

In 1957, the first, fourth and fifth districts merged to form Tianshan District, the second and third districts merged to form dosruk (Uighur, meaning friendship) District, and the District People's committees were established respectively.

In 1960, dosruk district was abolished and the area under its jurisdiction was merged into Tianshan District.

In 2000, Tianshan District governed 12 streets.

In 2001, Tianshan District governed 14 streets and 1 township: Jiefang North Road Street, Xinhua North Road Street, Shengli Road Street, Jiefang South Road Street, Xingfu road street, Heping Road Street, Qingnian Road Street, Xinhua South Road Street, yan'erwo street, Wulabo street, Dongmen street, Tuanjie road street, Yan'an Road Street, Jianquan street and Dawan township.

On March 9, 2002, the State Council approved that Wulabo street in Tianshan District should be put under the jurisdiction of Nanquan district (renamed Dabancheng District) of Urumqi city.

On January 9, 2016, the government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (Xin Zheng Han [2016] No. 3) approved that the area under the jurisdiction of shayibak district is about 44.9 square kilometers (including 38.4 square kilometers of Urumqi local state-owned cattle breeding farm under the jurisdiction of the former Animal Husbandry Department of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and 6.5 square kilometers of shayibak District).

Tianshan District, located in the southeast of Urumqi City, is known as the "hometown of ploughing, chiseling, singing, dancing and metallurgy". It starts from Dongshan cemetery in the East, adjacent to Shuimogou District and Dabancheng District, Hetan road and hepingqu in the west, shayibak District, Tuoli Township in the south, Urumqi County, and Shuimogou District at the intersection of Hongshan Road and Hetan North Road in the north. In 2005, Tianshan District achieved a GDP of 12.04 billion yuan, an increase of 13.5% over the same period in 2004. Among them, the added value of the primary industry was 16 million yuan, an increase of 8.3%; the added value of the secondary industry was 1.663 billion yuan, an increase of 12.4%; the added value of the tertiary industry was 10.361 billion yuan, an increase of 13.6%.
