Yanchang County, belonging to Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province, is located in the north of Shaanxi Province and the east of Yan'an City. It is 73 kilometers long from east to west and 55 kilometers wide from north to south, with a total area of 2368.7 square kilometers.
The early human activities in Yanchang county can be traced back to the Neolithic age. In 266, the county was established. In the second year of Guangde of Tang Dynasty (764), Yanhe River flowed from west to East into the Yellow River, and it was named Yanchang county. The terrain is inclined from northwest to Southeast, high in the north and south, low in the middle, showing Valley peak type. It belongs to warm temperate arid continental monsoon climate, with four distinct seasons in spring, summer, autumn and winter, and obvious cold, warm, dry and wet.
As of 2018, Yanchang county has one street and seven towns under its jurisdiction, with a permanent resident population of 128500, realizing a GDP of 5.40779 billion yuan, of which the added value of the primary industry is 1.08137 billion yuan, the added value of the secondary industry is 2.44135 billion yuan, and the added value of the tertiary industry is 1.8857 billion yuan. The ratio of the three industrial structures is 20.0:45.1:34.9. Daxia (407-431)

Northern Zhou Dynasty (557-581)
Guangan County and Yixiang County belong to Guangan County of Yanzhou, which is still the old county of Western Wei Dynasty; in 577, Menshan county was set up in Yunyan county and fenchuan County, which belongs to lechuan County of Danzhou.
Sui Dynasty (581-618)
In the first year of Renshou (601), Guang'an County was renamed Yan'an county to avoid the name taboo of crown prince Yang Guang. In the first year of Daye (605), Yixiang county was merged into Yan'an county. In the third year of kaihuang (583), Menshan county was changed to Danzhou, and in the first year of Daye, it was changed to county. Menshan county was abolished, and its jurisdiction was assigned to fenchuan County, which was subordinate to Yan'an county.
Tang Dynasty (618-907)
In the second year of Wude (619) of Tang Gaozu, beilianzhou was set up and Yixiang and Qiming counties were added. In the second year of Zhenguan (628), the state was abolished and Yixiang and Qiming counties were merged. Wude three years (620 years) Fen Chuan county to restore Menshan County, under the Danzhou. In the second year of Guangde (764), it was changed into Yanchang County, which took Yanchang water as its source and flowed into the Yellow River.
Five Dynasties and ten states (907-979)
Yanchang county and Menshan county were established as Yanzhou. At the end of the Tang Dynasty, Yanzhou was occupied by Li Maozhen, and it was extended to tuobagong. During the Kaiping period (907-911), Yanzhou returned to Houliang, and Yanchang was attached to the loyalty army. In the later Tang Dynasty, it belonged to the Zhangwu army. Later Jin Dynasty, later Han Dynasty and later Zhou Dynasty were still under Zhangwu army.
Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127)
Yanchang county is under the jurisdiction of Yanzhou. In yuanyouzhong (1089-1091), Yanzhou was renamed Yan'an Prefecture. In 1074, Menshan county was transferred to Yan'an Prefecture.
Jin (1115-1234)
The old system of Yanchang county and Menshan county is still in use, belonging to Yan'an Prefecture on Minyan road. In 1142, he was transferred to Zhangwu army.
Yuan (1260-1368)
Shaanxi Province set up in the book line, leading Yan'an Road, jurisdiction of Yanchang county. In 1269, Menshan county was abolished and the jurisdiction was incorporated into Yichuan County.
Ming Dynasty (1368-1644)
In the ninth year of Hongwu (1376), the Secretary of Shaanxi Chengbao government was set up in June. In the second year of Hongwu (1369), Yan'an road was changed to Yan'an Prefecture in May, which had jurisdiction over Yanchang.
Qing Dynasty (1644-1911)
The administrative system at the provincial, municipal, government and county levels shall be implemented. Yanchang county is under the jurisdiction of Yan'an Prefecture, yanyusui Road, Shaanxi Province.
The Republic of China (1912-1949)
In the second year of the Republic of China (1913), the system of government, prefecture and department was abolished. There were two levels of road and county under the province. Yanchang county was subordinate to Yulin road in Shaanxi Province. In 1927, the Dao system was abolished and the county was directly under the provincial government.
On May 30, 1935, Yanchang county was liberated and the Revolutionary Committee of Yanchang county was established under the Soviet government of Northern Shaanxi Province. At that time, the Shaanxi Provincial Government of the Kuomintang put Yanchang County under the second district administrative supervision department. On December 10, 1936, six districts of Yanchang County merged with Hongquan county to form the Anti Japanese and national salvation government of Hongyi County, which was under the jurisdiction of Yanyi army. In 1937, the Anti Japanese and national salvation government of Yanchang county was established under the jurisdiction of the Shaanxi Gansu Ningxia border region government. At the same time, Yanchang county government of KMT was under the jurisdiction of the second district administrative supervision department of Shaanxi Provincial Government of KMT. In July 1937, Hongyi county was renamed Gulin County, under the jurisdiction of Shaanxi Gansu Ningxia border region government. In 1942, the Shaanxi Gansu Ningxia border region was divided into five sub regions: Yanzhi sub region, Suide sub region, Guanzhong sub region, Longdong sub region and trilateral sub region. Yanchang and Gulin counties were transferred to Yanzhi sub region. In the same year, Gulin county was divided into Nanniwan reclamation area and Guiyan district. In 1946, the KMT Shaanxi provincial government extended it to the first district administrative supervision office. On March 19, 1948, the government of Shaanxi Gansu Ningxia Border Region decided to abolish Gulin county and establish Linzhen County instead. Linzhen county was abolished in February 1949, and its jurisdiction was divided into Yanchang county and Yan'an county. On May 4 of the same year, Yanchang county was directly under the administrative office of Northern Shaanxi.
The people's Republic of China (1949)
On February 10, 1950, the people's Government of Shaanxi Province was established, and Yanchang county has been under the jurisdiction of Yan'an district (renamed Yan'an District in 1969).
In November 1958, Yanchuan County was merged into Yanchang county.
In June 1961, Yanchuan County was divided according to the region at the time of merger.
On September 29, 2018, Yanchang County withdrew from the sequence of poor counties.

In the Eastern Han Dynasty, the county is still subordinate to gaonu county. At that time, gaonu county had jurisdiction over six counties and cities, namely, Yan'an City, Zhidan City, Ansai City, Yanchang City, Yanchuan city and Zichang city.
In the Northern Wei Dynasty, Guang'an County is now located in the county. It governs the whole territory of Yanchang, the south of Yan'an City and the north of Yichuan County.
In the Western Wei Dynasty, Guangan County is located in the middle of the county, Yixiang County in the West and fenchuan County in the East.
In the Northern Zhou Dynasty, Guangan and Yixiang counties were located along the Western Wei Dynasty, and the eastern part of fenchuan and Yunyan counties were located in Menshan county.
In Sui Dynasty, Guang'an County changed its name to Yan'an County, which governs the western part of Yanchang; in the East, two counties, namely, wumenshan and Yunyan, were merged into fenchuan county.
In the Tang Dynasty, Yan'an county and beilianzhou were established in the western part of the county, and Yixiang and Qiming counties were established; beilianzhou and Yixiang and Qiming counties were abolished, and Yan'an county was changed into Yanchang County; Menshan county (belonging to Danzhou) was established in the eastern part of the county.
In the Yuan Dynasty, Yanchang county was established in the west of the county along the Tang Dynasty, and Yichuan County in the East.
From the Ming and Qing Dynasties to the 24th year of the Republic of China (1935), the county remained unchanged.
On May 30, 1935, Yanchang county was liberated and the Soviet Red regime was established. At that time, the former Fifth District of Yichuan County was merged into Yanchang County, which was designated as the Sixth District of Yanchang county.
On December 10, 1936, the Sixth District of Yanchang was set up and merged into the newly established Hongyi county. At the same time, the Southern District of Yanchuan County (also known as the Second District) including Sunjiata, haojiata and gaojiagou were classified as Yanchang.
On August 19, 1948, Gulin county was abolished and Linzhen county was established. Genglo district and Antai District of Gulin County belong to Yanchang county.
