Historical District
At the beginning of the Zhou Dynasty, Sanyuan county was a part of jiaohuo, where the Yuyu people settled down.
From the Qin and Han Dynasties to the Western Jin Dynasty, it was the same area as Jingyang. Its governing place was first named Jingyang and then Chiyang. Qin belongs to Beidi county and Han belongs to zuofengyi.
In 352, the first two years of emperor Fu jianhuang of the former Qin Dynasty, Sanyuan garrison was set up; in 446, the seventh year of Taiping Zhenjun of Taiwu emperor of the Northern Wei Dynasty, Sanyuan county was set up, belonging to Beidi county. The name of Sanyuan dates back to the pre Qin Dynasty, where the shogunate county is located in Yaoxian county to the north of ma'e township.
In the second year of Xiaochang (526) of emperor Xiaoming of the Northern Wei Dynasty, the imperial edict analyzed that the third county of Beidi county was Jianzhong County, belonging to Beiyong Prefecture. According to the biography of Mao Ya in the northern history, the Ming emperor changed Beidi County into Beiyong Prefecture and Hongbin as the governor. According to the imperial edict, the emperor changed Sanyuan County into Jianzhong county to honor his brothers.
In the first year of Yong'an, Emperor Xiaozhuang of the Northern Wei Dynasty (528), he set up Beiyong Prefecture in Sanyuan county. Yongan city was built in the year of Yongan, so it was named Yongan. The old city is in Xiaodou village, Chunhua County. According to the Tongzhi of Shaanxi Province, "Mao Hongbin's yizha is the old city of Yong'an. There is a monument between Zhenyuan of Tang Dynasty to record the remains of this place; today's place belongs to Chunhua, and the people of Chunhua in Jiajing were grinding it as a Confucian monument.". He Zhi: "Mao Hongbin yizha is in Xiaodu village, 60 Li northwest of the county.". According to this, Xiaodu village is located in Chunhua, now known as Xiaodou village; it is not the same place as Yangdu village, 11 kilometers north of Sanyuan county.
In the third year of kaihuang reign of Emperor Wen of Sui Dynasty (583), the county was subordinate to Yongzhou, and later to Jingzhao. The county government is in Yong'an town (now in the area of Dancun in Fuping).
In the sixth year of Wude, Emperor Gaozu of the Tang Dynasty (623), he moved to Gusuo (Sui Dynasty), changed Huachi County, and still divided Sanyuan county (the new book of the Tang Dynasty called "analysis of Sanyuan county"), which was subordinate to Quanzhou in the north. "Divide and rule Sanyuan county", that is, Huachi and Sanyuan side by side, North and South divide and rule. Huachi County is in the north, Sanyuan county is in the south.

"New Tang Shu" contains: "Zhenguan first year Huachi was changed into Sanyuan County, with Yongkang mausoleum in the North eighteen Li, Xianling in the East eighteen Li, zhuangling in the northwest five li and duanling in the East ten li. " According to this position, Chiyang County in the early Tang Dynasty and the third county after Zhenguan should be not far from the northeast of today's Xiyang town. There are chengnanguan and chengnanli village nearby, which can be used for reference to determine the location of the county. According to the memories of the older residents in kangmabao, there was a remnant tablet of "ancient Chiyang" in the area during the period of the Republic of China, which was used by farmers to lay the foundation stone of adobe.
In the Five Dynasties and Liang Dynasty, Sanyuan County belonged to Xi'an Prefecture, and the county government was still in the northeast of Xiyang town.
In the Five Dynasties, the counties of Tang, Jin, Han, Zhou and Sanyuan were changed to Yaozhou, and the county government was appointed to the city.

In the Ming Dynasty, Sanyuan county first belonged to Yaozhou; later, due to the official documents and business trips of Xi'an provincial government, it was inconvenient to go backward, so it was changed to Xi'an government in the third year of Hongzhi (1490). The Qing Dynasty inherited the Ming system, and the county name and subordination remained unchanged.

The merged County People's Committee is located in Chengguan town of Sanyuan, which has jurisdiction over 14 communes, and another district of Sanyuan City, which has jurisdiction over Chengguan town. In August 1961, the State Council approved Shaanxi Province to adjust the administrative divisions of special counties, abolish the system of Jing, San, Gao and Chun counties, and restore the system of San Yuan County, which belongs to Xianyang area.
