In the eighth year of Yongzheng reign (1730) of the Qing Dynasty, Guihua hall was set up in the present county seat, and Guihua engineering Miao house was set up, which means that there are more Miao people (Miao nationality) and less foreign people (Buyi Nationality). Therefore, it is called Guihua LiMiao mansion. Later, due to the fact that Jianghan compatriots lived in Japan, the name did not match the reality, so it was renamed Guihua Limin government in the late Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty. The word "Guihua" means to make Miao people "submit" and "create".
In the second year of the Republic of China (1913), the hall was changed to a county. Because the meaning of the word "Guihua" was not elegant, it was renamed Ziyun county with Ziyun Cave in the west of the city.
From 1949 to 1955, it was subordinate to Anshun district.
