Dazu District, subordinate to Chongqing City, was built in the first year of Qianyuan (758 AD) of Tang Dynasty, and got its name from the meaning of "Dafeng Dazu".
Dazu is located in the west of Chongqing, 55 kilometers away from Chongqing in the East, 155 kilometers away from Chengdu in the west, Tongnan in the north, Tongliang in the northeast, Yongchuan in the southeast, Rongchang in the southwest and Anyue County in Sichuan in the northwest.
By the end of 2019, the total area of Dazu district was 64 billion 583 million yuan, with an area of 1436 square kilometers, 6 streets and 21 towns, and 1074461 registered residence population. Among them, the Shuangqiao economic and Technological Development Zone of Chongqing city was under the jurisdiction of 3 Street 1 towns.
Dazu district is dominated by automobiles and motorcycles, intelligent manufacturing, modern hardware, modern home furnishings, electronic information and circular economy. It has won the first batch of 5A scenic spots, National Tourism and culture counties, national ecological demonstration area, national health county, National Garden County, national greening model county, national greening well-off county and other honors. In 2016, Dazu district was listed as the second batch of national new urbanization comprehensive pilot areas. Evolution of organizational system
Dazu district is located in the state of BA in Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties, Bajun in Qin Dynasty and Dianjiang County in Yizhou in Han Dynasty. During the Eastern Jin Dynasty and the northern and Southern Dynasties, it successively belonged to Dianjiang County, Dangqu County, Dianjiang County, Shijing county and Yongkang County of Pu'an County.
In the Sui Dynasty, Shijing county was located in the northeast of Dazu, and Longkang county was located in the southwest of Ziyang County.
In the Tang Dynasty, Shijing County, Tongliang County and Bachuan County of Hezhou were located in the northeast of Dazu, and Longkang County of Puzhou was located in the southwest. In the first year of Qianyuan Dynasty (758), the county was officially established. It was named after dazuchuan in the territory and belonged to Changzhou. In the sixth year of Dali (771), Zhang Chao and Yang Zhen made trouble, and the government of Changzhou was burned and removed. In 775, Cui Ning, the governor of Xichuan, ordered the restoration of Changzhou, and the administration of Changzhou was transferred to Jingnan county. In the first year of Guangqi (885), the government of Changzhou moved to Dazu County. In the first year of Jingfu (892), Jingnan county was withdrawn, and Shuangqiao belonged to Dazu County.
In Song Dynasty, Dazu ruled the land for Changzhou Prefecture and Tongchuan Prefecture.
In the Yuan Dynasty, it was incorporated into Hezhou in 1290.
In the Ming Dynasty, it was restored in 1371 (the fourth year of Hongwu's reign); in 1382 (the tenth year of Hongwu's reign), it was transferred to Chongqing government, the Minister of Chengxuan government of Sichuan Province; in 1565 (the forty fourth year of Jiajing's reign), Cai boguan revolted, and the founding of the people's Republic of China was called "Datang" and "Dabao".
In 1662, it was incorporated into Rongchang County. In 1728, Dazu County was restored. In the 13th year of Kangxi (1674), Wu Sangui became emperor, and the state name was Zhou. From 1678 to 1680, the territory of Shuangqiao was occupied by Wu Sangui. At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, it belonged to Chongqing government and East Sichuan Road. During the reign of Emperor Guangxu, Yu Dongchen had three churches and two uprisings against foreign religions. In 1911, Zhang Guishan organized the army of Baolu comrades to enter the county, declared the independence of Dazu, conquered Fushun, and was promoted as the governor of Fushun.
During the period of the Republic of China, it belonged to Chongqing government and Eastern Sichuan Province successively; in 1935, it belonged to the third administrative supervision area of Sichuan Province.
Since the founding of the people's Republic of China, Dazu has been under the jurisdiction of Bishan, Jiangjin and Yongchuan respectively.
In February 1974, Sichuan Provincial Revolutionary Committee submitted to the State Council the request for instructions on the establishment of Dazu automobile factory administrative region directly under the central government of Chongqing Municipality. It suggested that the six production brigades of Qingchun, Tianxing, Baihe, Tianqiao and Tuqiao communes in Shuanglu commune and Yuantong commune of Dazu County should be assigned to the new administrative region directly under the central government of Chongqing Municipality. The establishment and name of Shuanglu commune remain unchanged. The other six brigades were formed into Tongqiao commune (named after Yuantong commune and Tuqiao commune respectively), and Shuanglu commune and Tongqiao commune were named after Shuangqiao commune.
In October 1975, with the approval of the State Council, Shuangqiao District of Chongqing was set up in Dazu County, which is subordinate to Chongqing City, Sichuan Province. In 1983, Yongchuan Prefecture was removed from Chongqing. After the restoration of Chongqing as a municipality directly under the central government in 1997, it was still under the jurisdiction of Chongqing.
In October 2011, with the approval of the State Council, Chongqing abolished Shuangqiao District and Dazu County and established Dazu district. At the same time, Chongqing Shuangqiao economic and Technological Development Zone will be set up as a development zone under the jurisdiction of the municipality, with the leaders appointed by the agencies dispatched by the Chongqing Municipal People's government, administrative units at the department level and municipal management organizations. On December 25, 2011, Dazu District of Chongqing was officially established. At the same time, Chongqing Shuangqiao economic and Technological Development Zone was established, covering longtanzi street, Youting Town, Shuanglu town and Tongqiao town.
In January 2015, with the approval of Chongqing Municipal People's Government (YF [2014] No. 92), Shuanglu Town, Tongqiao town and Zhifeng town in Dazu district were cancelled and Shuanglu street, Tongqiao street and Zhifeng street were established.

The geological structure of Dazu area belongs to the third sedimentary belt of Neocathaysian system, Chongqing subsidence fold belt. The exposed strata in the area are Mesozoic Triassic and Jurassic, with a total thickness of 374-1750m. There are Cenozoic quaternary riparian deposits outside. The terrain is slightly inverted triangle, with the southeast edge and northwest high, the middle and northeast wide back zone, slightly low and wide, steamed bread like solitary hills widely distributed, and the sea level of 270-900 meters. The general geomorphic feature is "three mountains, six hills and one sub dam".

Dazu district is a subtropical humid monsoon climate zone with abundant heat, abundant rainfall, four distinct seasons, high air humidity, less sunshine, long frost free period, frequent cold air in spring, more summer drought, more continuous rain in early summer and autumn, less frost and snow in winter. There are 364 species of wild plants in 125 families, including arbor, shrub, bamboo, vine, herb, common algae, etc. There are Alsophila spinulosa, Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Davidia involucrata, and Ginkgo biloba, Eucommia ulmoides, Gynostemma pentaphyllum, Illicium verum, golden dog's back, golden buckwheat, etc. In addition to the main crops such as grain, oil and vegetables, there are also economic crops such as sericulture, tung oil tree, tobacco, grape, vine pear, loquat and prickly ash.

Dazu district is located on the watershed of Tuojiang River and Jialing River. There are 240 streams (sections) with a total length of 1006.8 km. The annual average total amount of water resources is 585.9 million cubic meters, and the groundwater resources is 42.99 million cubic meters. The exploitable utilization is 370 million cubic meters, accounting for 69.8% of the total surface water resources, and the developed utilization is 210 million cubic meters, accounting for 39.6%.
There are 4646 water conservancy projects in Dazu District, including 1 large (2) reservoir, 3 medium-sized reservoirs, 111 small reservoirs (including 18 small (1) reservoirs and 93 small (2) reservoirs), 3133 shanpingtang, 693 shiheyan, 42 small diversion projects, 455 power irrigation stations, 23 town waterworks and 185 rural centralized water supply projects. The supporting main canal is 200 km and the branch canal is 800 km.
