Babu District Babu District, the seat of Hezhou municipal Party committee and government, is the name of the original He county and the original county-level Hezhou City. Located in the northeast of Guangxi, at the junction of Hunan, Guangdong and Guangxi provinces (regions), national highway 207, 323, Guiwu, Guanghe, Yonghe expressways under construction, Guiguang express railway and Luoyang Zhanjiang railway which are completed and opened to traffic all meet at Babu.
Babu District, with a total area of 3686 square kilometers and a total population of 650000 (2009), has jurisdiction over 12 townships, 1 Yao Township and 3 sub district offices.
In December 2020, it was rated as the advanced county of Guangxi high quality development in 2019 by the autonomous region.
Historical evolution
Babu District is the name of He county and Hezhou City. It has a long history. Linhe county was set up in the 6th year of the Han Dynasty (111 BC), and has a history of more than 2100 years. There are five towns in the jurisdiction that used to be the seat of the county government in history. They are Linhe county (now Hejie town), Fengyang County (now Pumen town), Xindu county (now Xindu town), Jianxing County, Xing'an County, Guiling county (now Guiling town) and Babu Street (formerly Babu town).
In February 1997, the State Council approved the withdrawal of counties to establish cities and the original Wuzhou area was renamed Hezhou area, which is located in the original county-level Hezhou City; in June 2002, Hezhou area was withdrawn to establish cities, formerly known as Wuzhou area, which was changed to "Hezhou area" in 2007, and Hezhou City was established under the jurisdiction of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Renamed Hezhou City, the original county-level Hezhou City renamed Babu District.
In 1996, He county covers an area of 5247 square kilometers and has a population of about 800000. It governs 18 towns and 2 ethnic townships: Babu Town, Hejie Town, Butou Town, Liantang Town, Daning Town, Nanxiang Town, Guiling Town, Kaishan Town, Huangtian Town, Lisong Town, Shatian Town, etang Town, Gonghui Town, Shuikou Town, Xindu town, Lingfeng Town, Renyi Town, Pumen Town, Huangdong Yao Township and Daping Yao township. The county government is located in Babu town.

On June 18, 2002, the State Council approved the abolition of Hezhou Prefecture and county level Hezhou City and the establishment of prefecture level Hezhou City. The Municipal People's government is stationed in the newly established Babu District. Hezhou City established Babu District. Babu District governs the administrative region of Hezhou City at county level and Xiwan town of Zhongshan County. The District People's government is located at 1 Xiangyang Road.

On June 13, 2005, the government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (GZH No. 170) agreed to adjust the administrative divisions of some towns and townships in Babu District: abolish Babu town and set up sub district office, with the former administrative region of Babu town as the jurisdiction of the sub district office; abolish Xiwan town and set up sub district office, with the former administrative region of Xiwan town as the jurisdiction of the sub district office.
In 2007, Xiwan street, Huangtian Town, etang Town, Shatian Town, Gonghui Town, Shuikou Town, Daping Yao Township and other five towns and one township were assigned to Pinggui management area.

The main economic fruits include Phyllostachys pubescens, Phyllostachys praecox, star anise, Osmanthus fragrans, chestnut, Camellia oleifera, tung oil tree, tea, Shatian pomelo, green plum, orange, longan, plum, etc. it is one of the main forest areas and wood production bases in Guangxi.

There are 27 kinds of minerals in Babu District, such as tin, tungsten, gold, silver, manganese, iron and rare earth.
