Wanxiu District, located in the east of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is a municipal area under the jurisdiction of Wuzhou City.
Wanxiu district is located in the east of Yuanyang River in Wuzhou City, in the east of Wuzhou City, adjacent to Fengkai County, Zhaoqing City, Guangdong Province in the East, Longwei District in the south, Dieshan district and Changzhou District in the west, Cangwu County in the north, Guijiang River and Xijiang River in the South, and Dieshan district across the river. It is 365 km away from Nanning in the West and 260 km away from Guangzhou in the East.
Wanxiu district is the old commercial district and the main trade concentration area of Wuzhou City, with developed commerce. Wanxiu District, with a total area of 117 square kilometers, governs three towns and five streets. In 2010, the population was 152800.
Historical evolution
Wanxiu District of Wuzhou City has a history of more than 2100 years. Since the sixth year of the Han and Yuan Dynasties (111 BC), Wanxiu district has been the outline of Wuzhou City and the seat of counties, prefectures, prefectures, roads and counties.
In 1897, Wuzhou was established as a trading port.
In November 1951, the River office was established. In May 1953, the town was withdrawn and the people's governments of the first, second and water districts were established. In August 1955, the city government was abolished and nine offices were set up in Chengzhong, Chengbei, Heping, Dahe, Fuhe (Guijiang), Xiaguan, Honglou, shigu and Nandi. In September 1958, the office was canceled and three district offices were established in the south, the north and the water. In April 1960, it was renamed Baiyun, Wanshou and Yuanjiang people's communes.
In October 1961, Wanshou commune was divided into Wanshou commune and Baihua commune; in November, Wanshou commune and Baihua commune were established to integrate politics and society; in the same month, Baiyun commune was divided into Baiyun commune and shigu commune; in December, Baiyun commune and shigu commune were established. In August 1962, Wanshou and Baihua merged into Wanshou commune (District), Baiyun and shigu merged into Baiyun commune (District). In September 1968, Wanshou, Baiyun and Yuanjiang communes were replaced by revolutionary committees of Hongxing, Dongfanghong and Dongfeng communes. In February 1979, the three commune revolutionary committees of Hongxing, Dongfanghong and Dongfeng were abolished and changed into three District revolutionary committees of Wanxiu, Baiyun and Yuanjiang.
In August 1980, the Revolutionary Committee was abolished and three District People's governments, Wanxiu, Baiyun and Yuanjiang, were established. In September 1984, Yuanjiang district was abolished and merged into Baiyun District. In August 1990, Baiyun District was abolished and merged into Wanxiu district. So far, Wanxiu district has jurisdiction over all the urban areas in the east of Guijiang River and the north of Xijiang River. In 1992, Wanxiu District governed four streets in the north, middle, East and south of the city, and 61 neighborhood committees. In 1996, the area of the whole region was 4.9 square kilometers, with a population of about 130000. The district government is located in Fumin road.
According to the fifth census in 2000, the total population of Wanxiu district is 113969. Among them, there are 38847 people in Chengdong street, 29148 people in Chengnan street, 18644 people in Chengzhong street and 27330 people in Chengbei street.
On August 26, 2002, 61 neighborhood committees were abolished, and 23 communities including Zhongshan, Dadong, yungai, shigu, Heyuan, Yunlong, Tangyuan, Wufang, nanzhong, Fumin, Bingquan, Pingdong, Pingxi, Minzhu, Sifang, Dongzheng, Beishan, Guibei, Baihua, Qianjian, Baiyun, Huaji, Guijiang were established. In the same year, the population of the whole region was 100000.
On January 2, 2003, the State Council (guohan No.1) approved the adjustment of the administrative divisions of Wuzhou City and Cangwu county. Among them, Wangfu town of Cangwu county and Chengdong town in the former suburb were under the jurisdiction of Wanxiu District, the people's Government of Wanxiu district was located in Fumin Road, and Tangyuan neighborhood committee of Wanxiu district was under the jurisdiction of Dieshan district. In February, after the adjustment, the total area of the district was 406.92 square kilometers, an increase of 402 square kilometers over the previous year. It has jurisdiction over 4 streets, 2 towns, 22 communities and 16 administrative villages, with a total number of 46134 households and a total population of 154200.
In August 1990, Baiyun District was abolished and merged into Wanxiu district. So far, Wanxiu district has jurisdiction over all the urban areas in the east of Guijiang River and the north of Xijiang River. In February 2003, the municipal division of Wuzhou City was adjusted. Wangfu town of Cangwu county and Chengdong town of suburb were added to Wanxiu District, and Tangyuan community was assigned to Dieshan district.
In 2013, Wanxiu District of Wuzhou City was abolished and a new Wanxiu District of Wuzhou City (excluding Wangfu town) was established.
