Yichuan County Yichuan County is adjacent to Luoyang, the ancient capital of the thirteen dynasties in the north, Song County in the South and Yiyang County in the West. Yichuan County is located in the shallow hills of western Henan Province. It has jurisdiction over 12 towns, 1 Township, 2 sub district offices, 359 administrative villages, 10 urban communities, and 1 provincial industrial agglomeration area, with a total area of 1243 square kilometers and a total population of 850000. It is one of the 23 first batch of key counties to open to the outside world and 35 counties to expand power determined by the provincial Party committee and the provincial government.
Yichuan County has successively won the honorary titles of national advanced county in science and technology work, national advanced county in disability work, national advanced county in ecological demonstration area construction, county economic development advanced county in Henan Province, Hongqiqu spirit cup in Henan Province, provincial double support model county, advanced county in aging work in Henan Province, provincial Garden County, etc., and has been identified as one of the first batch of key counties in opening up by the provincial government.
On May 9, 2019, after the provincial special evaluation and inspection, it reached the standard of getting rid of poverty and officially withdrew from the poverty county sequence. On July 29, 2020, it will be included in the list of national health towns (counties) to be reconfirmed in 2019.

Historical evolution
Yichuan County has a long history. As early as the end of the primitive society, Yichuan region was known as Yichuan, Yihou and Yichuan.
Most of the southwest of Yichuan County in the Xia Dynasty was called yique land in Yuzhou, Yichuan in the reign of King Xiang of Zhou, and yique in the Warring States period.
In Qin Dynasty, Luochuan and Huanghe were called "the land of three rivers". In 191 BC, Emperor Huidi of Han Dynasty set up Xincheng County, and in the Eastern Wei Dynasty, Xincheng County was changed into Yichuan County.
At the beginning of the Sui Dynasty, the county was abolished and changed to Yizhou. Luoyang county was abolished and Yichuan County was established. At the beginning of Daye, Yichuan County was merged into Luoyang county.
In the early Song Dynasty, Yiyang and yique counties were established. In Xining period, yique county was abandoned as a town and Yiyang County was established. In 1139, Shaoxing changed Yiyang County to shunzhou, and later changed shunzhou to Songzhou. In the early Ming Dynasty, Songzhou was changed into Songxian, and the Qing Dynasty followed the old system.
In 1927, Feng Yuxiang set up liberty County on the South Bank of the Yi River and equality County on the West Bank of the Yi River.
In 1932, the two counties of equality and freedom merged into Yichuan County.
In February 1986, after Luoyang area was abolished, Yichuan County was under the jurisdiction of Luoyang City.

According to the spirit of the reply of Henan Provincial Department of Civil Affairs on canceling Chengguan town and implementing urban management system in Yichuan County (yuminxingpi [2014] No. 41), the 23rd executive meeting of Luoyang Municipal government agreed to set up two sub district offices of Chengguan and Hebin in Yichuan County.
On December 28, 2017, the Department of civil affairs of Henan Province approved the withdrawal of gezhai Township and Yaling Township in Yichuan County to establish gezhai town and Yaling town respectively.
Yichuan County governs 2 sub district offices: Chengguan sub district office and Hebin sub district office; 12 towns: Shuizhai Town, Minggao Town, Pengpo Town, Baisha Town, Jiangzuo Town, Gaoshan Town, Ludian Town, Banpo Town, Jiuhou Town, Yaling Town, gezhai town and Baiyuan town; one township is equal township.

Yichuan County is located in the low mountains and hills of western Henan Province, surrounded by mountains. Yichuan river runs through the north and south, forming a Southwest northeast Yichuan basin. Niangniang mountain and rainstorm mountain belong to Jishan mountain in the East, Jiugao mountain in the South belongs to Waifang mountain, low hills in the west is Xionger mountain, and Longmen Mountain and Wan'an mountain in the north are Songshan mountain. Most of the rivers in Yichuan County belong to the Yihe and Luohe River Systems in the Yellow River Basin, and a few belong to the BEIRU river system in the Huaihe River Basin. There are more than 20 rivers;
Yihe River is the largest river in Yichuan County, with a drainage area of 943.4 square kilometers, accounting for 91% of the total area of the county; there are 8 townships and 66 administrative villages along the river, with 200000 people and 10667 hectares of cultivated land. With dense population and fertile land, yanhechuan district is the main grain production area and industrial base of the county; the larger tributaries of Yihe River include Baihe River, Shunyang River, Yinhe River, Quhe River, Duhe River, etc.
Luohe River system is located in the west of the county, with a drainage area of 68.7 square kilometers, accounting for 6.6% of the total area of the county; only Ganshui river is a tributary of Luohe River.

Yichuan is rich in resources. There are as many as 37 kinds of proven minerals, mainly including coal, bauxite, phosphate rock, granite, iron ore, oil, etc. Among them, coal reserves are 1.8 billion tons and bauxite reserves are 200 million tons.
Coal is distributed in Banpo, Baisha, Gaoshan, Yaling, Lvdian and other towns, with a total reserves of about 186.53 million tons.
Bauxite is mainly distributed in the area from Baiyao to Lugou at the junction of Yichuan, Dengfeng and Ruzhou, with geological reserves of about 7.5 million tons. Phosphate rock is located in the line from Shiti of gezhai township to Zhaigou of Jiuhou township. The estimated reserves are more than 10 million tons. The geological reserves of iron ore are about 900000 tons.
