Wuzhi Camellia oleifera enjoys a high reputation in China and has a history of more than 300 years.
It is said that in the first year of Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty, the emperor Yinzhen came to Wuzhi to supervise the construction of dams in order to control the flood of the Yellow River. In order to win the favor of the master, local dignitaries sent people around to collect delicacies for the emperor. At that time, Wuzhi county magistrate Wu Shilu, in order to please the emperor, asked a master of Camellia oleifera surnamed Zhu to make Camellia oleifera for him. He immediately made a bowl of delicious Camellia oleifera and presented it to Yongzheng for tasting. As expected by the chef, Emperor Yongzheng had a good time to eat. When the ministers saw the emperor's praise, they all rushed to taste it. The news spread like wildfire, and the local people flocked to it, especially for Camellia oleifera. Eating Camellia oleifera became popular. The magistrate of Wuzhi county not only flatters the emperor, but also has some economic brains. Seeing that Camellia oleifera was so popular, he ordered to open more Camellia oleifera teahouses in the county, increase the supply, and entertain officials and merchants. With the prosperity of Camellia oleifera business, there are more and more shops and vendors in Wuzhi city. Of course, the county magistrate's pockets are naturally inflated. As the market competition intensifies, some losers in the competition will go to other places to seek another way out, which makes Camellia oleifera popular in other places, especially in the vast areas of northern China, and thus become a national food.
Wuzhi oil tea tastes fragrant but not greasy. It's delicious. It's made of fried noodles with sesame oil, peanuts, sesame and walnut kernel. Because it is a kind of milk like thin juice, like strong tea, so it is named "Camellia oleifera". After several times of evolution, Camellia oleifera changed from thin to thick into "porridge" shape, with tea instead of rice. Some large and medium-sized cities also set up "Wuzhi oil tea snack bar". After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Wuzhi Camellia oleifera has been further developed, and this traditional flavor food is more radiant with youth. In 1958, the state also selected two famous Camellia oleifera teachers in Wuzhi to teach in the Great Hall of the people, which caused a sensation in the capital. "Wuzhi oil tea house" has been set up in many parts of the country, especially in many cities in the north, to meet the needs of the people. With the transformation of traditional technology and the improvement of production technology, in recent years, Camellia oleifera has also been made into convenient food, which has been sold to Hong Kong, Macao and some other places overseas, and its reputation is even more popular.
Wuzhi Camellia oleifera is not only famous in China, but also spread to Western Europe and Southeast Asia. In the 1930s, in order to work and study, the students studying in Britain and France were peddling oil tea pots on the streets of London and Paris. Up to now, some of the consulates run by overseas Chinese living in Paris still use Camellia oleifera as the best soup.
