Development History
In April 1953, the Suzhou garden renovation committee started to build the Suzhou zoo.
On May 1, 1954, Suzhou zoo was officially opened to the public.
In 1999, due to the breeding needs of South China tiger, Suzhou breeding base of South China tiger was established in Lidao of Shihu scenic spot. All the South China tigers in the zoo moved to the base, covering an area of 60 mu. On June 17, 2013, China South China tiger Suzhou base moved to the forest animal world of Shangfangshan under construction. As of July 2015, there are 15 South China tigers in the base.
On April 11, 2016, Suzhou zoo was closed. After moving to the new site of "Shangfangshan forest animal world", the park officially opened on October 1, 2016.
Animal origin
At the beginning of the park, the animals were mainly composed of private Tongfa zoo and state-owned Humble Administrator's Garden Exhibition animals, mainly including South China tiger, leopard, black leaf monkey, crocodile, lynx and other dozens of animals, and then gradually introduced from other places or bred in the park.
