Heyuan Heyuan, also known as Chacheng, is a prefecture level city in Guangdong Province and a city in Shenzhen metropolitan area. It is located in the northeast of Guangdong Province, the middle and upper reaches of Dongjiang River and the upper reaches of Hanjiang River, covering an area of 15600 square kilometers. In history, Tuocheng was the first county in Lingnan. Zhao Tuo, the king of Nanyue, was the first magistrate of Longchuan County. Heyuan is the earliest area where Hakkas developed Lingnan. It is the hometown of Ruan Xiaoxian, the first director of the central audit committee of the Communist Party of China, Xiao Yang, the former president of the Supreme People's court, and Wen Rumin, the chief editor of Chinese textbooks for primary and secondary schools. It is the revolutionary base of Dongjiang column and the earliest liberated area in Guangdong.
The water environmental quality of Heyuan lake continues to rank first in the province, and Wanlv lake is one of the first batch of "good water in China" water sources approved by the Chinese society of Environmental Sciences, which is the largest lake in South China. Dongjiang River is the largest river in the city. It originates from yajibo mountain of Xunwu County and Sanbai mountain of Anyuan County in Jiangxi Province. Its upstream is called Xunwu water, and flows into Guangdong Province. It is called Dongjiang River after the confluence of Longchuan Wuhe dyke and Anyuan water. Its total length is 562 km, and it flows through Longchuan, Heping, Dongyuan, Yuancheng and Zijin counties and districts in the city, with a length of 193.6 km.
The second largest river is Xinfeng River, which originates from yaposhi, a small town in Xinfeng County, flows through Xinfeng Town, Meikeng, Fengcheng, Daxi and other towns, flows southward through Xikeng, joins with Lianping Zhongxin River, flows into Banjiang in Dongyuan County, and then flows into nachuantang River, Luohu River, Dengta River, and then gathers water from Zhixi, Lixi, Guling and Nanhu, flows through Heyuan City and joins Dongjiang River, which is also the largest tributary of Dongjiang River. Heyuan City is rich in light, heat and water resources, and there are many kinds of animals and plants. There are 7055 species of wild plants belonging to 280 families, 1645 genera; 633 species of cultivated plants belonging to 111 families and 361 genera; 1959 species of fungi, including 185 species of edible fungi and 97 species of medicinal fungi. Among the plant species, there are Alsophila spinulosa, Cathaya argyrophylla and other first-class national protected plants, Taxus chinensis, Taxus chinensis and other second-class national protected plants.
