Loudi Loudi City is a prefecture level city under the jurisdiction of Hunan Province. It is said that the "Louxing" and "Dixing" among the 28 constellations in the sky complement each other here, hence the name. The terrain in the territory is high in the West and low in the East, presenting a ladder like slope; the mountains in the West are majestic, the terrain is steep, and the altitude is high; the terrain in the East is gradually reduced, the terrain is gentle, and the altitude is low. Loudi is the hometown of Chiyou, one of the three ancestors of the Chinese nation, who is regarded as the "God of war" by later generations. It is also one of the main birthplaces of Huxiang culture. There are three national AAAA tourist attractions, namely Meishan Dragon Palace, Zeng Guofan's hometown and Ziquejie Terrace. There are two national forest parks, namely Daxiongshan and Longshan, and more than 70 boutique tourist attractions, such as Meijiang River and boyue cave. It is located in the geometric center of Hunan Province with superior location and convenient transportation. The Hunan Guizhou railway and the Shanghai Kunming high-speed railway under construction cross the East and West, the Luoyang Zhanjiang railway runs through the north and south, and 40 special railway lines connect the main factories and mines in the city, forming a "meter shaped" railway network. Louxin expressway is fully connected, Xinxu, anshao, louyi, louheng and louchang expressways are planned and constructed at the same time, and the reconstruction of national and provincial trunk roads is completed. On February 12, 2020, it was jointly identified by the Ministry of civil affairs and the Ministry of finance as the fifth batch of pilot areas for the reform of home-based and community-based care services supported by the central government.

Loudi belongs to Chu state in spring and autumn and Warring States period. Qin Xiangnan County, jurisdiction now Shuangfeng, Lianyuan part of the region, is Changsha County. The Western Han Dynasty belongs to the state of Changsha.
In the fifth year of emperor Gaozu of the Han Dynasty (202 BC), Liandao was set up, which governs the area from the west of today's measuring water in Shuangfeng County to Lantian in Lianyuan city.
In the fourth year of Jianping (3 BC) of the Western Han Dynasty, Xiangxiang county was set up in Xiangnan County, including Shuangfeng, most of Lianyuan and Loudi, which belonged to Changsha County.
During the Three Kingdoms period, they belonged to Hengyang County and Zhaoling county respectively. In the first year of Wu Baoding (266), Zhaoling county was set up as Gaoping County, which is now in the west of Xinhua County.
The Western Jin, Eastern Jin and Southern Dynasties (song, Qi, Liang and Chen) belonged to Shaoling county. Sui belongs to Changsha County.

Other counties and cities in Loudi, Shuangfeng area, belonged to Xiangnan County of Changsha County in Qin Dynasty and Xiangxiang County for a long time after Han Dynasty. From the Qin Dynasty to the Eastern Jin Dynasty, most of Lianyuan belonged to Xiangnan, Liandao, Xiangxiang, Zhaoling and other counties. After the Northern Song Dynasty, all of Lianyuan belonged to Xiangxiang, Shaoyang, Anhua and Xinhua counties for a long time. Louxing district has been under the jurisdiction of Xiangxiang since Han Dynasty. Lengshuijiang area belonged to "meishanman" before Song Dynasty, and to Xinhua County for a long time after Song Dynasty.
In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), it belonged to Changbao road. In the third year of the Republic of China, it was changed to Xiangjiang Road. In 1922, the Taoist system was abolished and directly under Hunan Province. In the 29th year of the Republic of China (1940), it belonged to the fifth and sixth administrative supervision districts of Hunan Province.
In 1949, in the early days of the founding of new China, the territory was under the jurisdiction of Yiyang district and Shaoyang district.

On February 8, 1983, the State Council approved the abolition of Loudi City in Loudi area and changed it into Loudi district (county level) of Xiangtan city. Shuangfeng and Lianyuan counties were under the jurisdiction of Xiangtan city. Lengshuijiang City was abolished and changed into Lengshuijiang district (county level) of Shaoyang City. Shaodong, Xinshao and Xinhua counties returned to the jurisdiction of Shaoyang City. However, it has not been implemented, and the name of Loudi area has been withdrawn.
On July 13, 1983, the State Council approved the restoration of Loudi district and its administrative office. Loudi City, Lengshuijiang City, Shuangfeng County, Lianyuan county and Xinhua County were under the jurisdiction of Loudi District, and Shaodong and Xinshao counties under its original jurisdiction were under the jurisdiction of Shaoyang City.

Loudi City is full of streams, dense river network, complete water system and abundant water. The main rivers in the city are: Lianshui in the East, a major tributary in the middle reaches of Xiangjiang River, originates from Guanyin Mountain in Xinshao. From west to East, it flows through Lianyuan City, Louxing district and Shuangfeng County, and enters Xiangjiang River through Xiangxiang to Xiangtan County estuary. The total length of the city is 85.85 km. There are 89 1-4 tributaries along the way, such as nasun River, Meijiang River and Shishui, with a control basin area of 3906 square kilometers.
