[plant morphology] Aristolochia grandiflora
Vines perennial. The roots are massive, transverse, 1-3 connected. The stem is about 1.5 meters long, with 7 longitudinal lines. The young branches and young leaves are pilose. Leaves alternate, ovoid, 4-11 cm long, 3-11.5 cm wide, entire, apex obtuse, base heart-shaped, both sides auricular, basal veins 5; petiole 2.5-7.5 cm long. Short raceme axillary, petiole about 1 cm long, flowers drooping; calyx tubular, about 2.5 cm long, base expanded spherical, inner wall with 2 tufts of pubescence, neck contracted, curved, inner side with pubescence, upper side open, trumpet shaped, dark purple, with 5 veins, first end flat or slightly concave; stamen 6, combined with style; style 6-lobed, stigma not obvious, ovary long columnar, 6-ribbed, ca. 8 mm long, inferior, 6-loculed. The flowering period is from February to March.
It grows in the grass on the edge of deep mountains and ditches. Distributed in Guangxi, Zhejiang, Jiangsu to Sichuan, Gansu and other places.
The vine stem and fruit of this plant are used as medicine for Fangji and Aristolochia in Gansu Province.

[herbal medicine] the root tuber is spindle shaped, 14 meters long and 8 cm in diameter, with many verrucous protuberances, light brown surface, irregular wrinkles and a few residual fibrous roots. It is hard in texture, light purple brown to orange yellow in fresh section, light dark ochre and powdery after drying. Qi is special.
The root tuber of the plant in Sichuan Province has the same effect.
