Herbs perennial, up to 40 cm tall. The rhizome is transverse, fleshy and thick, with many fibrous roots. Stem solitary, erect, hirsute, with scales below. Leaves alternate, inserted in the upper part of stem, usually 5-7 (9) pieces, ovate elliptic or broadly elliptic, 8-16 cm long and 6-7 cm wide, apex pointed, base rounded, margin and both sides densely hirsute; shortly stipitate. Panicle terminal; flower small, white; perianth piece 6, elliptic; stamen 6; ovary 3-locular, each locule has 1 ovule. Berries globose. Early green, with purple spots, yellow or light yellow when mature. It blooms in summer.
It grows in the shade of forest and hillside. It is distributed in southwest, northwest, northeast and North China.
The perianth of the same genus Luxi Luyao combines into a high foot dish shape. Rhizomes are also used for medicine.
