Insectivorous herb, 1.5 m high. Leaf blade elliptic oblong, 9-20 cm long, almost glabrous on the top, arachnoid pubescence on the bottom along the midrib, about 6 pairs of lateral veins protruding from the lower part of the leaf, nearly parallel; tendrils 2-16 cm long; insectivorous sac subcylindriform, 6-12 cm long, 1.6-3 cm thick, cover nearly round or broadly ovate, with 2 longitudinal ribs, usually ciliate on the ribs; petiole semiamplexicaul, 2-6 cm long. Flowers red or red purple, dioecious; raceme 20-40 cm long, pilose; sepals 4, narrowly obovate, 4-7 mm long, pilose outside; petals absent; stamen style slightly shorter than sepals, anthers 16-20, densely globose; pistil ovary 4-locular, elliptic, style short, stigma 4-lobed. Capsule 15-30 mm long, sepals persistent, after ripening into 4-valved fruit. Seeds filiform, apical, up to 12 mm. The flowering period is from April to November. The fruit period is from August to December.
Mostly in sunny humid areas. It is distributed in Guangdong and Guangxi.

[herbal medicine] the dry stems and leaves are mainly sacs at the apex of leaves. The leaf blade is papery, mostly broken; oblong or lanceolate; it is grayish brown and purple on the top, with clear veins and dark brown on the bottom; the main veins protrude and elongate into tendrils, about the same length as the leaf, and the tip of tendrils is connected with a pouch. Most of the cysts are flattened, with a cap attached at the top; the outer surface is brown to brownish yellow, more wrinkled; the inner surface is reddish brown to yellowish brown, smooth, densely covered with glandular dots; the bottom of the cysts often remains insect carcass fragments.
Produced in Guangdong and Guangxi.
