Deciduous shrub, 1-2m high. Bark gray, slightly smooth; branchlets brown, bright, dehiscent; buds oval, densely covered with gray short hairs. The central lobe is longer than the lateral lobe, the apex is acute, the base is heart-shaped, the edge is spiny, and the lower part is densely covered with white villi. The petiole is 2-8 cm long. Raceme 2.5-9 cm long, 16 cm long, drooping, flowers dense, up to 40, rachis thick, with dense hairs; sepals 5, retrovolved, greenish or yellow, obovate; petals 5, green, cuneate or truncate; stamens 5, protruding; style 2-lobed, base conical, longer than sepals. Berry globose, 7-9 mm in diameter, red. The flowering period is from May to June. The fruit period is from July to August.

It grows in mixed forest or coniferous broadleaved mixed forest. Distributed in Northeast China, North China, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu and other places.
