Deciduous shrub, 1-2m high. Bark gray, slightly smooth; branchlets brown, bright, dehiscent; buds oval, densely covered with gray short hairs. The leaves are alternate, palmately 3-lobed, sparsely 5-lobed, 5-10 cm long and 4-10 cm wide. The central lobe is longer than the lateral lobe, the apex is acute, the base is heart-shaped, the edge is spiny, and the lower part is densely covered with white villi. The petiole is 2-8 cm long. Raceme 2.5-9 cm long, 16 cm long, drooping, flowers dense, up to 40, rachis thick, with dense hairs; sepals 5, retrovolved, greenish or yellow, obovate; petals 5, green, cuneate or truncate; stamens 5, protruding; style 2-lobed, base conical, longer than sepals. Berry globose, 7-9 mm in diameter, red. The flowering period is from May to June. The fruit period is from July to August.
